Robert's Story

First,I did not upload all those weird photos of parts and diagrams and other stuff on purpose but somehow they seem to have followed others that I did upload. Some of that may have to do with Facebook connections to Classmates and pictures that I shared to someone that was looking for information on those bike parts. Strange feature of this classmates site. I'll have to cleanup my mess sometime. Life Married with grown children, Dawn & Matt. Also raised a couple of niece's that are my wife's older brother's who passed away. I've got a couple grandkids now as well. Currently living in west St. Louis county, and working in the computer field (for 40+ years). It certainly has been an interesting journey from where I was back in high school to where I feel I am currently at. I wish I'd have been a better person then but the ignorance or arrogance of youth seems to have gotten in the way. Probably would change a couple things along the way if that were possible but only if it didn't change the person I've become. Guess that's not possible because it is our life adventure the eventually defines us all. Hope all of you are well & happy. Perhaps the 2 most important factors in life. The fun stuff - Started downhill skiing in the mid to late 70's for fun and excitement. Also got a SCUBA certification & did a little diving in the late 70's through the late 80's. Took up bicycling in the mid 80's to stay fit, then took up public class bicycle racing. Riding about 4000 miles a year now. Currently have a collection of racing bikes and participate in the Missouri State Time Trial yearly & also the State Road Race once in a while. I currently race in the Men's Masters 60+ bracket. Took 3rd place in the State Time Trial in 2009 and 2011. Set a new personal best record for 25 miles in 2011 with a time of 1 hour ...Expand for more
6 minutes 24 seconds at a speed of 22.6 mph. You can find/view my times if you Google the Missouri State Time Trial results for various years (also "results and rankings" on the USA Cycling webpage under Robert Schlumpberger). I also have an old mountain bike I take to some local Parks and other trails for offroad riding. Pictures of my bikes and me are on a BikeJournal site if you are interested in that kind of stuff. I also participated in the St. Louis "Gateway Bike MS" charity ride (formerly known as the "MS 150) . This made my 30th year and I will be in the top 10% of fund raisers again. 2012 - I'm still enjoying life with all it's changing paths. I officially took up bike racing this year (2012) with a USA Cycling license. I've done a couple of road races as of this writing. While a long way from winning anything I feel I'm doing OK for having to race against guys 1/3 my age. So far I've finished both races and I wasn't last. That's OK for the oldest guy in the race! 2013 - Still working in Information Technology providing support for small to medium size businesses. Still riding and racing bicycles. Had a pretty good year and currently ranked 3 or 4th in the nation of the 60 - 70 year Category 5 (Cat 5) group. Was about 20th when age is not in the settings. 2014 - Changed companies, a sort of scary thing to do at this age. Like the new company culture so much better that what the last one was. Still IT with a focus on Healthcare and Education. It has been an off year for cycling and other activities due in part to the job change. 2018 (already) Official retirement is about a year away. I am planning on racing to the top of Mt. Evans on my bike in July. 27.4 miles, all uphill, starting in Idaho Springs at about 7500 ft elevation and end at the top of Mt. Evans 14130 ft. It is going to be EPIC!

Just something a little different today.
So right on point.
