Robert's Story
Greetings ......and as Mr. Ward would say: Note this!
Nina and I continue to reside in Portland, Tennessee. Portland is about 40 miles north of Nashville. We can see Kentucky from our back porch.
I retired in 2015 following management changes starting with the corporate CEO and down two more levels to my immediate boss. The change in company culture finally took a toll on me and several other managers. I no longer had faith in upper management and they sure as heck were not interested in my opinions. In other words, work was no long "fun". Maybe it was just God's way of rooting out of the work force so I could be home with Nina.
I was "honored" to be selected to head up the building team for the church we planted in January of 2015. God gave us 12+ acres of prime land at no cost. This was accomplished through some pretty miraculous business transactions. Having free land provided us the opportunity to build much sooner that expected. ved in. So we built a separate 2800 sf classroom building this summer (2018) and that is now full.. Really amazing what God is doing with and for young families.
I am looking forward to gathering for our 55th reunion in 2020. It hardly seems that long since I wondered through the halls of the old high school.
In retrospect, I consider my years at ECHS as the prime of my life - I met my wife of 50 years there in addition to being able to be a part of a great class at a great school. My memories are vivid and the desire to "play ball" still burns in my heart.
I have adopted as my life's motto the quote which was uttered by a special guest speaker, Dr. Cunningham (his picture and this quote are in your Senior Yearbook), in one of those special assemblies in our old gym. His words have served me well, and I recommend them to you.
"Good, better, best. Never let the matter rest until good is better and better best"
Look us up if you make it to the Nashville area. I can be reached on my cell phone at 615-855-7991.
God bless!
