Robert's Story

Life Currently residing in the Kansas City 'burb of Shawnee, Ks. . I drew cars when I was supposed to be learning from the nuns at Immaculate Conception, the drawing stuck, most everything else was lost. As part of the "Tarpey tradition", was sent to Loyola after I.C., but managed to cause enough grief that the good priests saw fit to not allow me to return sophomore year.... H.P.H.S. put up with me for the rest of my "studies"!? Since the age of 10 my desire to be a Marine followed, where I spent the next 23 years ( 6 active duty, the remaining 17 years as a Fed. Empl) making battle simulation games and audio/video training aids for the troops. Throughout my life, the "love of the automobile" has allowed me to own over 100 vehicles. I've restored some very rare and desirible ones, raced others then passed them on to new owners. While at the Command & General Staff College, Leavenworth, Ks. I me...Expand for more
t and married a "farmers daughter". I've often said "the very best thing I 've ever done was join the Marines...the very best thing that ever happened to me was Jan." We have a BLAST together. 5 boys have made us proud to be associated with them, FUN grandkids, and, I still haven't quite grown up..as planned. I have recently completed THEE most enjoyable tenure, as Dealer Advisor, Special Vehicle Team, Ford Motor Company, fulfilling the "dream of a lifetime" job. To go behind the scenes, have input on future vehicles, and DRIVE vehicles I never in my wildest dreams thought possible. What a ride it's been!! I come "home" to Highland Park at least once a month to visit my brothers/sisters & friends..frequent the usual Highwood & Lake Forest haunts on Fri or Sat evenings to keep up on "North Shore" things. The drawing board is never blank, just my head! Always up for talking to old friends.. Bob
