Robert (Red)'s Story

Life After graduating in '49 and going to DC on the senior trip, I worked the summer at CGW. Then after 2 years at Alfred University, and 1 1/2 years between the IR and CGW I was drafted and spent 2 years in the army. I was stationed for 15 months in Korea, '53 to'54. I worked at various plants of CGW and I got married in '60. I gave up 9 years seniority and went to work with Prudential Ins. After 9 years ( living in Bath then Kingston and back to Bath ), I divorced and transferred with Prudential to Orlando. I finished my 30 years with Pru and retired in 1990 at age 58. My mother, Ruth Belden McClurg Anderson graduated from Cortland Normal School ( SUNY now ) and taught in PP in '25 and '26, marrying my father and moving to Dundee as a barber. He had been a NYS Trooper but at that time only single men could be troopers. He was killed in an auto accident in 1934; I was 22 months old and my brother Bill was 3 1/2. Mom went back to PP grade school to teach kindergarten. She remarried in '39 to my step-father, Ken Anderson, and stopped teaching shortly thereafter. She was called very often to be a substitute at P. Post and corning Northside Blodgett. She finished up at the Corning Winfield St. scool, retiring at age 62. They rented in FL for 6 months each year in the Canaveral area. I was able to visit with them often. After the '72 P. Post flood they sold...Expand for more
their Woodycrest ( Meade's Creek Rd. ) house and bought a condo in Cape Canaveral. My brother retired from CGW and moved to Venice, FL, on the gulf coast south of Sarasota. After 8 years, for health reasons, mom and dad sold the condo and moved to a retirement facility in Venice, close to Bill. Dad passed at age 84 in '92, mom at age 87 in '94 and my brother lost his wife at age 65 in 'March of '96. I have 3 daughters from my first marriage, ages 41, 44 and 51. 2 are in NYS and one outside of Houston, TX, 8 grand-children and 6 great-grand children. I wanted to travel so I bought a small motorhome. It wasn't big enough to tow a car so I up-graded to a bigger one. That wasn't big enough in storage area and I wanted to RV travel fulltime. I sold my house in Winter Park, FL and upgraded to a diesel pusher. Now I travel 6-7 months around the USA visiting Eagle's, Elk's and Moose Lodges and VFWs, Am. Leg and AmVets. I am known all over the states as Santa BoB. I have been playing Santa since my mother passed away in '94; she hated beards. I have visited with several PPHS alumni, Tucson, San Diego; Korean War buddies found on the internet as well as my brother's girls and families, 2 in Louisville, KY, Tulsa and Los Angeles area. I'm sitting here reminiscing and it's 10:00 PM. Time to have a sandwich. I hope someone reads this. Santa BoB ( RED ) McClurg
