Robert's Story

After graduating from West Point in 1957, I was commissioned in the Air Force. Earned my pilot's wings in Texas. Sent to Tyndall AFB in Florida. Met and married Betty LouJean Daniels on July third 1959 . We are celebrating 58 wonderful years this summer. One son, 3 daughters and 7 grandkids. Spent 5 years as a flight instructor in Texas, 3 years in the Philippines flying combat missions (225) in VietNam. Earned the Silver Star and several DFCs. Flew the F-111 in Nevada and went to graduate school here in Ohio. After a 2nd tour in SE Asia, returned to Wright-Patterson AFB to the Flight Dynamics Lab where I worked in crew station design. Retired from USAF in 1979, have worked for Boeing (design of Air Force One) and training and safety work for several research firms. Earned MS in Astro Engineering and MA in Experimental Psych. 016, I retired from tors aviation and safety courses at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, OH and consulting on training systems for the new Air Force Tanker Aircraft. Betty and I are members of the Honey Creek Presbyterian Church here in New Carlisle, where she just finished a three year term as Elder. I still write poetry and Betty does some fantastic cross stitch work. As for hobbies, I am a homebrewer and certified beer judge. We moved out to our five acres (and a pond) in the country (1250 Funderburg Road) 4 years ago. I got started on Classmates thanks to Don Norton. When we were with Boeing in Wichita (1985-1990), we met Don and his wife. They were owners of the La Chinita Mexican restaurant there. Sadly, we just recieved an e-mail from friends in Derby that Don died on January 5th. In Kansas, we also met Dave Bissell who was the hospital commander at McConnell AFB. Small world!
