Robert's Story
Been a long time since RHHS. Amazed at how many OLD names I have seen here. Can not believe that we are all approaching the 50 year mark in life. Been very lucky in life and in my work. After high school did some odd jobs and ended up in NYPD. It was the job I always wanted, as some of you know. 23 years and 8 months later, I retired from the JOB, due to my Mom being terminally ill. I was able to spend some time with her before she passed.
My time with the Police Department was very rewarding. I was a responder to the Trade Center Attacks and Hurricane Katrina. On 9/11 myself, like so many other NYPD, NYFD, PAPD, Iron Workers, Sanitation workers, Verizon Workers and EMS personnel responded to the site and worked tirelessly for weeks to try to find victims and remains. Truly, I was one of 10,000 people who responded. I have never been...Expand for more
prouder of my occupation or of New Yorkers in general during this time.
I worked in Patrol, Street Crime Unit, Narcotics Division, Detective Squad, and then after 9/11 went to work for the greatest Chief in the NYPD- Joe Esposito. I spent my last 5 years on the job responding to every major job in the city. He even sent me down to New Orleans after Katrina. It was a nice note to leave on a year later.
I currently live in Howard Beach and have been here for 17 years. I have a 21 year old daughter from a previous marriage and she is graduating from Queens College this year. She has made me proud of her accomplishments.
In closing I would love to hear from some of the folks that I went to school with and hung around with. I hope that life has been as good to you as it has been to me. Hope to hear from some of you soon.
