LIFE: After graduation, I joined the US Marine Corps and went to boot camp in San Diego California. I eventually ended up spending 25 plus years in the USMC going from Lance Corporal (E3) to Major (O4) being promoted 10 times. I spent nearly 4 years overseas on different deployments on Navy Boats and on land. I was awarded three Meritorious Service Medals, Two Navy Commendation Medals and several other individual and unit awards. I went from San Diego, to Memphis, to Jacksonville NC, to Quantico Va, to Kaneohe Hi to Quantico, to Kaneohe Hi to Beaufort SC, to Memphis Tn to Quantico to Cherry Point North Carolina and have been all the way around the world. I started out as a private and worked my way through Staff Sergeant E-6, then through the Warrant Officer ranks (WO-4), then through Major (0-4) and was up for Lieutenant Colonel (O-5) but my slot would have been on the West Coast (Southern California) and Susan's mom was not in good health so we retired.
