Robert's Story

Life After going to a southern school and discovering the cultural divide I transferred to UVM and graduated in '66 a semester behind. I went to Colgate for an MAT and taught in NY schools for a year, then on to Vermont for 8 more years of teaching and a year of grad school. I met my future wife & got married in '69. I successfully avoided the draft, barely. We both got teaching jobs in Nantucket in 1976, bought a house, and have stayed here ever since. We had two girls in '85 and '87, both teriffic. I retired in June 2001 and have been most happy. I finally got the boat I want, a 22 foot center console ideal for the great fishing here. I enjoy scuba diving for scallops in the fall and am picking up the camera...Expand for more
s again. We got involved in the Unitarian church which is pretty cool for a church. College Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina is now an up-and-coming small school which is nice to know. It was mediocre while I was there for two years. UVM provided me with a great education; I remember enjoying all of my classes. I worked as a lab assistant which was fun. Aside from dating a couple of girls I was not very social. I studied hard. I took off one semester, senior year, but the Woodstock draft board convinced me to return ASAP. I graduated a semester late. I went Colgate for a master's in teaching and immediately got a job. Colgate was OK. I had two good teachers there. The rest were just mediocre.
