Robert's Story
Life
Entered military after graduation from highschool and immediately ended up in Germany. Left Germany in December 1963 and went to Ft. Myer, Virgina then on to FT. Belvoir to LPN school. Ended up in Korea in 1966 and then Vetnam in 1968. Went to Okinawa in 1976 and back to Walter Reed AMC and retired in Feb 1980 with 22 years. Went to college about everywhere I was station except RVN. Returned to college in 1984 for another degree and then went to work for the Navy in civil service. Downsized in Sep 99 and worked as contractor until 8/2001. Forced into early retirement due to health problems at that time. As of 1 April 2003, am 100% totally and permanently retired on disability from the VA. Now passing time as a freelance photographer, my hobby. I also began working with Habitat for Humanity in 2002 as the Land Acquisition Director and then when Hurricane Katrina came along, I spent 5 1/2 months in Pearlingt...Expand for more
on, MS for the recovery helping build new houses there. Also, in December 2002, I became a fire photographer for one of our local volunteer fire districts and am now a LT, Administrative Officer for the district. In 2006, I turned my hobby of photography into more than a hobby and have been photographing everything of nature I can find in Florida and the Trans-Pecos area of southwest Texas, where I own some property. Big Bend National Park is one of my favorite places.
Military
Started out in the Reserves and then went to active duty in the Army. Spent a tour in Germany and travelled all over Europe and Africa, spent a tour in Korea on the DMZ, tours in Vietnam at Surgical Hospitals and Medical Clearing Companies, taught in the Army LPN School in Denver, CO, had a tour in Okinawa attached to the Navy and finally went to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in DC and retired from there with over 20 years of service.
