Robert's Story
Life
I am moving back to Atlanta soon; same job, different office. I am looking forward to playing soccer with old friends and rock climbing outdoors in Tennessee and Alabama. And I will continue hanging out with friends being stupid...
School
I want to thank Ms. Thornton and Ms. Daniels for inspiring me to pursue science and math. Without my engineering degrees I don't think I could have tried all the stuff I have as a professional.
I would do a few things differently, but I'm not sure that anyone would remember those things the way I do. There were opportunities I missed and chances I didn't take, but I think we all feel that way about some moments in our lives. But here's to letting fewer of those moments slip away and never having to say "what if" again.
College
I went to UF and did my worst impression of a Gator fan. I never could get into all the hype.
After UF, I worked for a few years in Atlanta, Ga before I decided I should go to grad school (Georgia Tech). I thought I wanted to earn a PhD, but 2 1/2 years later, I earned a Master's degree ...Expand for more
from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.
Really not much to say about college. I made a couple of really good friends in grad school, but not as many as I have made out of school.
Workplace
My job life has been a bit of a whirlwind for the last few years. After I left grad school in 2002, I was an R&D chemist for 6 months in Cedartown, Ga and then I was a "polymer analyst" for about a year in Atlanta, Ga. After that I tried my hand at teaching high school math for a year... it is nothing like I remember school to be. Almost needless to say, I burned out on that quickly and now I am a project manager for an engineering firm in Jacksonville, Fl. I think it's time to slow down, take a breath and really see where I am now.
Military
I haven't served in the military, but my brother does. I guess this is an opportunity for me to honor him for his dedication to serving our country when it seems to be so unpopular to do so. Don't be mistaken though, I am not one who believes you have to agree with our nation's leadership in order to support our troops.
