Robert's Story

Life Have my first pickup and moving to the Country. Daughter and family will build 50 yards away on the same homestead. Have my first deisel pickup - tractor and chainsaws. Some change for a banker - ah? I always wanted to be a scientist when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a only a foolish idea. As it turns out, they were right. But, I'm not dead yet! George Washington Craver and Luther Burbank were my childhood heros because they showed farmers and consumers a practical way to adjust. I don't have a lot of steam left that needs blowing off. It has taken me most of my life to learn that all battles don't have to be fought. When I need to get in touch with my deeper feelings I consider what a great family I have and go to the farm, pile brush, sweat and toil. The wildest thing I did in school. This we aren't going to talk about. Even then I respected those who spoke softly and had quiet strength. Its a shame that world does not permit more gentle voices. ost of it to family , then spend rest on -well I don't know. Nothing more I really want. buy me a couple of greenhouses and a lot of different kinds of books. Not fiction. I have retired from two places -but am looking for something to do again that allows me to leave something new. Physical work makes me feel good - one thing I learned from my Dad was work ethic. Use to fish in pin stripes -last couple of years since my last retirement -wear blue jeans - funny I did not own a pair for more than 40 years. If I could do life over - I would hope that I would be more gentle and speak more softly. By the time you learn that others have thier own crosses to bear you have missed the opportunity to support them My first job was at George Harrison, where I got paid one dollar an hour to cut brush on the county right of ways. What I remember most about it is Charles Adams and I would take one side of the road and cut hard to get far ahead of the crew on the otherside. We moved the truck along with us. When we got far enough ahead we would have a beer that we had hidden in the water cooler. But. I am sure what Charles remembers most is the day a nest of wasps got up his pants legs.
