Robert is from Davis, California. Robert is married. Robert's schools include Livingston High School.
Because we were still in World War 2 at graduation I had taken a leave from High School to study electronics and Morse Code in San Francisco during part of my senior year. My mentor, LHS history teacher Mr Rose had served as a Merchant Marine Radio Officer, had advised me about what I needed to learn to become a Radio Officer. I had taught myself International
Morse code but was not very fast at it. The 3 months at Pacific Radio School in San Francisco, during my senior year was what I needed to get licensed and my Coast Guard papers. When I got my diploma from LHS I was ready and was assigned as 2nd Officer aboard the the 10,000 ton SS Gretna Victory and we were at sea in 3 days enroute to Siapan and Tennian with a load of amunition. We returned on VJ Day Aug 14, 1945, my 18th birthday. I returned to sea ...Expand for more
and sailed for the next 2 and a half years. I quit to go to San Jose State aiming to be a radio announcer. I had a part time job as an announcer at KLOK my sophomore year. After the first year I sailed again in the summer as a radio officer on a Matson lines passenger ship.
After two years of college II worked in radio for 5 years and then in the early days of TV for 15years. In 1969 I left my job as News Anchor and Director at channel 11 in San Jose to become the Public Information Officer for the Silicon Valley. I worked for Mayor Ron James and then Mayor Norm Minetta. Minitta later became the Sec of Defense during the George Bush administration. In 1979 I joined the staff of the University of California at Davis and retired from there after 17 years. My wife Nancy and I live in Davis. Nancy also retired from UC Davis where
she was employed in the Directors Office of the Veternarian Teaching Hospital.
