Robert's Story
After high school, worked for different places until I decided to get my act together and joined the Army in 1976. Worked on helicopters first, then changed careers and became a medical worker. Met my wife Deirdre at Ft Myer, VA in 1980 and got married in 1981. Went to San Antonio after LPN school, had 2 children, Ryan and Christine. Went to Germany for 3 years, then to Ft Hood, TX for 5 1/2 years. We came to Washington, DC in 1995 and I retired from the Army in 1996 after 20 years. My wife soon after retired in 1998. Our son went into the Air Force in 2004 and got married in 2005 to his wife Casey. They had their daughter Corie in 2007. Our daughter Christine got married in 2007 to her husband Jason. cal Center doing hemodialysis nursing. My wife Deirdre is the Charge Nurse for the Internal Medicine/METU Clinic at Walter Reed as well. I have been there for 10 years and am working on my 2nd retirement. Sure miss my brother Dave, but God had other plans for him that we have to accept. Enjoying life and my family, living in Columbia, MD. Went to CA bodysurfing in the storm surf (about 35 or 40 ft wave, cut out too early and got pulled over the top head first into the sand. Thought I had broken my neck but was ok. Over the years the disk deteriorated to the point I had to get a plate screwed onto the front of my vertebrae to stabilize them and get the disk removed. Still have some issues but much better. Have been back out there to bodysurf since then. Can't let that keep me away from my CA.
