Robert's Story

Robert is from Petersburg, Virginia. He is married to Naysa K Walker. His schools include Petersburg High School. He later attended Randolph–Macon College. He works(ed) at U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, US customs agency, US Border Patrol. Robert's interests include golf and travel. One of Robert's favorite quotes is:"I never learned anything when I was talking.". More about Robert:"Robert Walker began his career in law enforcement in 1956 with the State of Maryland Department of Corrections and quickly rose through the ranks to the position of Lieutenant. He left state service in 1964 when he embarked on a career with the Federal Government where he served as a Federal Agent with the U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Customs Agency and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. During most of his federal career he was assigned to offices on the U.S./Mexican border and worked extensively in Mexico, South America and the Caribbean. In 1970, he was temporarily assigned as a sky marshal flying all over the world for a major airline. In 1974, after a 2 ½ year investigation he set a world record seizure of forty-two tons of marijuana. In 1986 he retired from DEA as the Agent in Charge of the Columbia, SC office. In 1992 Mr. Walker accepted a position in the Office of Internal Affairs with the South Carolina Department of Corrections. In 1995 he was named the Agency's first Security Threat Group (gangs) Director and was responsible for all aspects of the development of the newly created program, to include the computer tracking system, the identification of STG groups and their members, the development of the department's gang identification training program and the training of personnel at the SCDC academy and the 32 corrections facilities located throughout the state. He retired from this position in August 1998 and today is a Criminal Justice Consultant, specializing in gang identification training and expert witness court testimony. Since 1995 Mr. Walker has presented numerous gang identification training classes at major conferences and groups throughout the U.S. to include educators and city, county, state, and federal law enforcement personnel. provided three (3) gang identification classes to the correctional officers and staff at the Florence, Colorado Federal Bureau of Prisons complex and four (4) training sessions to over 600 northern Indiana law enforcement officers. Other past notable conferences and agencies include, U.S. Job Corps, the Illinois Department of Probation, the Idaho, North Carolina, and Ohio Departments of Corrections; Federal Bureau of Prisons facilities in Besumont, Texas, Lee County Virginia and Florence, Colorado. The American Jail Association, The Public Defenders Service, in Washington D.C. Kenco Inc. in Chattanooga, TN and the 15th Annual Utah gang conference in Salt Lake City. In 2005, on two occasions, he performed an evaluation study and provided identification training for law enforcement and citizens of the Grand Cayman Island and Cayman Brac, British West Indies. Also in 2005, he was selected as the only non attorney presenter for the National District Attorneys Association Conference held at the University of South Carolina. As an expert witness he has testified in capital murder and attempted murder trials involving gang activity in the state courts of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Texas. He has also provided expertise in gang related cases in the states of California, Florida, Georgia, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia, as well as Federal District Court, Richmond Virginia in a RICO gang/drug trial. In addition to the criminal cases, he has provided expertise for the defense in civil trials in the states of Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee. Mr. Walker has appeared as a guest panelist on numerous television and radio programs to include: Court TV, The Michael Reagan Radio Talk Show, Jamaican Radio, Canadian Radio (2), the British Broadcasting Company, Fox Television National News, Atlanta, Georgia radio, Johannesburg, South Africa Talk Radio, Radio Cayman, Talk Today, Boston, MA Talk Radio (2), plus numerous interviews for national newspapers and magazines. Mr. Walker has written the forewords to three books; two for gang related novels and one for a corrections manual relative to surviving a career in the corrections profession.". His sister, Joan Walker/Jones is a PHS graduate, Class of '55.
