Roberta's Story
I have lived in five foreign countries. I lived in Sweden, England, the Netherlands, Japan and South Korea. I have been privileged to sing in some very special places in those countries, but my favorite was Christmas Eve Mass in a limestone cave in the Netherlands, which had served as a staging area for the Battle of the Bulge. and were blessed by the Catholic monks from the monastery that sat atop the mountain where the cave opened up. Every soldier was given a piece of charcoal to write his name on the cave wall. Two thousand of those men survived the Battle of the Bulge, and the monks re-charcoal the names once a year, to make sure we don't forget their sacrifice. Happy Memorial Day.
