Roberta's Story
Happy 65th Birthday (or there abouts) fellow Class of 68ers!!! It is now 47 years since we all trod the halls of EHS. If you didn't make the last reunion which included a tour of the remodeled EHS (not quite finished at that time) or had a chance to see it in some other way, you should do that. It is awesome!!
Hard to believe but I have been back in Decatur now 38 years. Might as well say I never went away, except that I still have strong ties to Batavia. I have been retired from Tate & Lyle (Staleys) for 3 years now but continue to sell real estate every chance I get with the Brinkoetter Team!! I love helping people, whether buying or selling, so I think I will keep doing it.
I have been able to experience many things that I couldn't while holding down a "9 to 5" and discovered a whole lot more of Decatur than I knew was there. I've also been more involved in the positive changes in Decatur and it is truly exciting to see this city in the process of a 180 and headed back up the ladder. Many thanks to all the people involved in making that happen. Sad that we lost a great leader with the death of Mayor McElroy, but I am sure our new mayor will do all she can to continue the upward trend. (Yep! First for Decatur. Remember when our Junior Class Council was all wom...Expand for more
en? We were a first, too! Way ahead of our time we were!!)
The kids and grandkids are still in the Little Rock area and loving the heck out of Arkansas. I still don't get down as much as I would like, but try to make the most of it when I do. Still living on the Northside with my Lab, Jake, who is getting pretty old and has given me a scare or two lately: and, my 16 yr old Calico cat.
Don't know if you realize it, but we lost 5 members of our class this past winter and a couple more since then. Because of that, some of us decided we needed to enjoy each other as much as we can, so we have started having monthly lunches at different restaurants around town. I am posting them on this site as reunion events, so look for that and please join us as often as you can. Yes, it is still hard to visit with everyone, but just being there is a warm fuzzy......okay, at least for me. If you can't make it, send me a note with a message for everyone. At least keep in touch. You can find me on the internet by my name, or here on Classmates, or on Facebook. My email and phone number are everywhere so you can text or call.
As always, I hope you are happy and healthy and enjoying life! I look forward to keeping up with as many of you as possible.
Cyberhugs to everyone!!
