CLASS OF 1960

Roberta's Story

I married Jack Morris and spent 2 years in New Jersey while Jack went thru electronics schools, and, where our 1st child, Pamela, was born. Next stop was Kenai, Alaska while Jack worked at a communications station and river fished on weekends. I played organ for the base chapel as well as accompanied the chapel junior choir on site, and, as they performed through- out the Kenai Peninsula. The Jr choir was also presented on the base TV station. I also substituted for the Soldatna, AK Church organist in the summer as she vacationed in the lower 48 states. Our 2nd child, Jack C. was born in Anchorage, AK. Alaska being such a beautiful place to live and play. We had our 1st taste of caribou, moose, &, love that salmon. We returned to Seattle 2 weeks prior to the great earthquake.(whew) Jack joined Xerox Corp as their 11th employee in the Northwest(SEATTLE) area. There later came an opening in the Tacoma, Kitsap County area and we moved to Bremerton where our 3rd child, Brian was born. My travels with my parents as a child, and with my 1st husband Jack, have taken me to or thru most of 49 states, as well as Puerto Rico, and Mexico. Great experiences. I have worked as a civil service employee, and, a few years as a contractor for the US NAVY totaling over 20 years, retiring last fall. My last job for them, was a most interesting and challenging experience. In between, I worked in Seattle for the largest medical labratory on the west coast, taking laboratory test orders and researching tests provided by other laboratories around the nation. I contracted RA,Rheumatoid Arthritis, at the age of 29. It is an annoying disease. Fortunately, after many years, friends indicated there was a private clinic in Oregon funded by a family grant. I traveled there, spending my vacations there two years in a row. Gratefully, the RA has been in remis...Expand for more
sion most of the past 15 years, but has left it's mark, and continues to be a progressive disease. While living in Bremerton, I sang as a choir member and soloist at Sylvan Way Baptist Church, and also with a music group called," The Puget Soundsters" for several years. Our children's activities in Rainbow girls, baseball, football and boy scouts kept us very busy along with our own interests, music, swimming, racketball, camping, golfing. Our daughter, Pam, follows my interest in music and is married to a Christian talent agent/promoter, and barbershop chorus enthusiast from Kent, Wa. Son Jack C. is married and works at a communications site for a popular cellular phone company, and lives in Tacoma, Wa. Son Brian is married and works for the CK school district. Our children's activities in Rainbow Girls, baseball, football, and Boy Scouts kept us very busy along with our own interests, music, swimming, racketball, camping, golfing. Jack & I divorced in 1989 after 28 years. I married again in 1993 to Charles Forkner III, and lived in Poulsbo 1 year. Charles and I later divorced and he currently lives in Kent,Wa. I reside in Lynden, WA temporarily, checking out the "chickens and eggs", "LOL", as well as some of my Dutch history. Two of my nieces will be traveling back from Missouri to vist their previous homes in Bremerton and Port Orchard, in August. The girls are making a point to be in Pt Orchard for Cedar Cove Days 2009. Of course I sent them the message about tea at the Vicorian Rose. They had hoped to see the church my father helped construct in Pt Orchard on Sidney St. I explained that it burned to the ground in the '60's while I was in Alaska. Well now, isn't that enough history? Statistics: Three children, 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild by a sons 2nd marriage, with a 2nd great grandchild due in August.
