Roberta Latour:

CLASS OF 1956
Fresno, CA

Roberta's Story

After graduating from Roosevelt High I entered Fresno State College (now CSUF) and earned my BA in Social Science in 1960. I then moved to Claremont University and earned an MA in Government in 1962. Later I earned a General Secondary credential from Stanislaus State College in 1963 and taught in high schools until I retired in June of 2000. I met my husband for life at Fresno State where he was majoring in History after spending eleven years (and World War II and Korea) in the U.S. Army. We were married on June 9, 1962 and recently celebrated our 48th anniversary. He also got a General Secondary Credential and we moved to Porterville in 1965 where he taught at one high school and I at the other. When we went to games we always sat on the home team's side of the field. We have raised two daughters. Michelle, the elder, has earned her doctorate in vocal music after attending CSUF, Boston University and USC. She sings opera and teaches voice at UNLV. The younger, Suzanne, attended CSUF , is married and lives in Boston. She has a two year old daughter, Ava, so we fly to Boston at least twice a year. We enjoy traveling and have visited Canada and Alaska, cruised through the Pa...Expand for more
nama Canal, toured Western Europe, visited Greece and Turkey, and in 2001 we visited Japan where Bob served after World War II and Korea. The year after I retired from teaching I had breast cancer and recovered (or I wouldn't be writing this resume). Bob then made good on a promise he made and entered a seminary program and was ordained a Deacon in the Episcopal Church. When troubles came to the church we stayed with the world wide Anglican Communion. We both love cats and dogs and currently have two dogs and four cats as house pets as well as two outdoor cats, not to mention four gold fish. I stay busy serving as the treasurer for our church, serving on the Altar Guild, and supporting my husband, who in addition to being a soldier and a teacher, was once a newspaper reporter and writes guest commentaries and book reviews in addition to his sermons. (We've both avid readers) Growing old is another adventure we are experiencing together although he is 13 years older than I. We have decided that it was the prescription drug industry which coined the term "golden years" as a result of our aging process. Our health is good, life is good, and we both look forward to more good years.
