Roberta's Story
Life
Should have graduated with Class of 67 (always out of step). BA from University of North Texas; MA from University of Dayton. Ohio State University in between. Student radical(?!); news reporter; college teaching. Co-opted into business world, fundraising and financial services. Now North San Diego County real estate broker, tech stock trader and hack golfer. Have very wonderful, tolerant husband and three noisy, adventurous and opinionated sons (10, 13, 15). Must be payback time. I am humbled by life's gifts, lessons and latitude. I have also been very negligent in keeping up with old friends. May all forgive me.
P.S. Please e-mail all hot stock tips! :>))
03/02/02 UPDATE: FORGET THE STOCK TIPS (yikes!) AND SEND TESTOSTERONE MANAGEMENT TIPS INSTEAD. BOYS ARE NOW 17, 15 AND 12. AM WICKEDLY CONSIDERING THE USE OF ESTROGEN SPRAY....
08/04/03 UPDATE: Life is exciting, even if the e-spray failed to work. I ignore the stock market more these days and stay very busy with real estate, teenagers (14,16,18)and new ideas.
San Diego is a wonderful place to live and offers the opportunity to dangle one's feet over the edge of the earth. It seems life is all about perspective....
02/03/07 UPDATE: The Chinese say (I think): Beware of interesting years. Last year was full of gifts, losses and lessons. My sister Gayle lost her youngest son (18) to suicide in January, our mo...Expand for more
ther died in May and my sister-in-law in October. Life has been generous, though, with family connections, new friendships and worthwhile challenges.
Went to China last fall with our oldest son Scott (22) and finally got into the swing of blogging (see LuxuryHomeDigest.com ) and would define it as a new hobby. Web 2.0 and social networking are just beginning to change our real estate practice--and how shareholders and companies can connect. My enduring favorite? ANTS Software.
I have also resolved to reconnect with old friends. Life is short.
College
I loved college, being away from home, and finding a new way to get into trouble: Leading a protest against an ultra-conservative administration. Of course, I didn't last past my first year and was promptly forced to transfer across town to the University of North Texas. There, I took a serious interest in journalism, politics and, for awhile, the John Galt-ish student news editor...Spent a year at Ohio State University doing journalism and photographing very angry war protesters who were livid over the Kent State shootings. Objectivity was foreign to me in those days....Ended up doing graduate work in Communications and English Lit at the University of Dayton, where I departed with an MA....I now have fun visiting my oldest son, Scott, at Cal State Monterey Bay. He is apolitical--which is fine with the mellower me.
