Robin's Story
Life
After graduating in 1978, my family and I returned to New Zealand and commenced ministry with a country Church. For 12 years we lived and worked in the rural community called Wakefield (near Nelson)and saw encouraging growth after a lot of hard work. Unfortunately things were not well at home, and my wife and I separated in 1989 after a lot of unsuccessful work at trying to right the wrongs. Our younger son (14 at the time) moved with me to another part of the country in the far south. Our older boy (just 16 at the time) stayed with his Mum. I worked in another Church on a temporary assignment for 3 years then left the ministry altogether. I had remarried in 1992. In 1993 my new family and I moved back to Nelson. I worked in Real Estate for 9 years then became a Hairdresser. My two boys have wonderful wives and now families of their own. Nathan has 3 lovely children (9 months to 6 years) and Aaron and his wife are expecting their 1st in May. Nathan and his family live local. He is a fully qualified senior nurse, trained counsellor and team leader in a teenage Psych. unit at the hospital. Aaron and his wife live in Sydney, Australia. Aaron sings part time in the Opera, and has managed to pick up small tasks like T.V. commercials and a bit role in two movies (Hercules and the remake of King Kong). My lovely wife and I now own two salons, plan to open two more, and then franchise ...Expand for more
the operation in 2007. We will retire and travel by 2010. We own a small farm (just 25 acres) and raise angora goats and beef cattle, and attend a small country Church nearby where I assist with preaching and leading fairly regularly. Life is good!!
Well since I wrote this huge changes have taken place. Oldest son Nathan is now the manager of the psychiatric unit at the Nelson Hospital. His children are now 5, 8, and 11. Son Aaron has moved to New York City and is endeavouring to enter Broadway. Some minor success has come his way but the major breakthrough has yet to occur. Unfortunately his marriage broke up some time ago and he is in a new relationship with a New York girl (also in theatre) so we may never see him back in New Zealand again except for visits.
Our business has grown beyond belief and we have now begun to franchise the business model we have developed. We have moved off the farm as of the end of June '09 and live in analmost new home near the sea and close to the city. A huge change after 40 years on the land. After several years being away from the Church I have recently begun to go back to it with my lovely wife who is a gracious and firm believer. I have a huge problem with the institution the Church has become, so am concentrating on developing a personal relationship with the Father to see where that may lead. Have added some new and up to date photos. Cheers
