Robin's Story

I have moved around quite a bit since leaving WMHS, both geographically and career-wise. I went to college at SUNY New Paltz as an Art Education major. After college I lived in Bar Harbor, Maine in the summers and West Palm Beach, Florida in the winters for a few years; waitressing and bartending since there wasn't many teaching jobs available back then. I did eventually teach for one year back in the Three Village School district as an art teacher at Nassakeag and Setauket elementary schools. It was only for a year because the teacher I replaced was on sabbatical for one year. It was strange teaching at Setauket School where I went to school from kindergarten through tenth grade (As most of you know, Ward Melville opened for my last two years of high school). Setauket school looked alot smaller when I went back, especially the hallways! I moved to New York City after I got married for the first time. The marriage lasted three years when in the process of getting a divorce, my husband passed away. I lived in Manhattan for most of the 1980s. I worked in sales and operations and eventually ended up working at the New York Daily News in Human Resources. Once I found the area of work that I truly loved, I went back to school at NYU to get certified in the field. Although I loved living in New York City, when my new husband, Elliot and I decided to have children, we moved to South Brunswick in New Jersey in 1991. Elliot is a financial analyst and we both continued to commute to the city to work. After I had my daughter, Emily, I just couldn't do the commute anymore and I got a contract position working in HR in the training department at Merck pharmaceuticals. After a year, I landed a job with Bunzl Distribution as the Northeast Region HR Manager. I now live in St. Louis since 1996. Elliot, Emily, Matthew, and I moved here when I received a promotion to become the VP of HR for North America for Bunzl Distribution. ered that I had breast cancer. I went through the whole nine yards of mascetomy, chemo, radiation, and reconstruction but have been cancer free since then. I am getting a divorce this year so I am soon to be single again. My daughter is a sophomore at Mizzou (State University of Missouri at Columbia) and my son is a senior in high school. My brother also went to WMHS the year before me. His two girls are grown and went through Middlebury College in Vermont. One is a professional mountain bike rider and the younger one runs top-end biking trips for Trex Travel in Europe. I put a picture of them with my photos when they were both amateur riders. There is also a picture of my brother when we were out visiting my uncle and my cousin, Trevor, in Mattituck after my aunt passed away. My cousin Trevor lived in Stony Brook before his family moved to Mattituck during his sophomore year at Ward Melville. My sister, Diana, went to high school in Port Jefferson. She now lives in Florida with her husband and two daughters. I don't keep in touch with too many people from Ward Melville. I do see Marge Drexler and keep in touch with Judy Ross. One time, after being in St. Louis for a few years, I saw a girl in the supermarket who had a Ward Melville jacket on. I asked her if she went to Ward Melville and she said that she did and now lived in St. Louis. When she asked me when I graduated and I said 1971, she was extremely disappointed since she had only graduated in the 1990s and certainly didn't know anyone I knew. I did feel like a bit of a relic. Life is good! I love my children very much. I can truly say that I am happy with my life and enjoying it immensely! I hope the same for all other WMHS graduates! Hello everyone, my sister Robin passed away in the spring of 2013, complications from bone cancer. Things really went south after she posted this. Cleaning up my sister's digital life. I guess Facebook lives on for eternity, try to delete it. Carpe Diem. Jeff Davison
