Robin's Story
After getting married to Gary Cartwright in March of our senior year, I graduated in June and started working at The Daily Advance in Elizabeth City for a year before going to work at Albemarle Hospital as a ward secretary for about four months before getting a job as a teacher's assistant at Central Elementary in Currituck.During this time I realized I would love to teach, so I started college full time at College of the Albemarle, while working part-time.After graduating from COA I transferred to ECSU, graduating from there with a BS in Elementary Ed. s time I was also contemplating getting my Master's Degree, so after seven years in the classroom I decided I wanted to be a librarian, so I first got my certification in library science, started working as the school librarian at Central while attending ODU for my Master's, going to school nights while still working full time, and this is where I stayed for rest of my 31 years in public education. During this time I had two children, a son and a daughter. After retiring, I have traveled, started doing genealogy research, gardening and reading.I now enjoy keeping my two grandaughters weekdays while their parents work.
