Robin's Story
After leaving Boston when I was 16, I lived in Europe, Japan, and Australia, where I now live and have lived for the past 28 years. I started my career as an English (ESL) teacher, then got my qualifications to teach primary school and, after that, high school. After teaching in international schools for some time, I ended up teaching translation and technical Japanese at university after completing a BA Honours degree in Japanese. Following that, I then began working with student exchange organizations and did marketing in Asia and Europe for several years, but went on to establish a public relations company with my husband. for an MA in Japanese interpreting and translation to realize my dream to become a translator. Since 2002 I have been a freelance translator and I hope I can do this for the next 10 to 15 years, if the gray matter allows. I really love this work and I can do it from home, thanks to electronic communications. No more need for fancy clothes and no more driving to work! I work for companies in the US, Japan, and Singapore, and there is more than enough work.
I go to Japan once a year or so, generally travel to the States once or twice a year, and once every two years go to Europe.
My son is a journalist in Tokyo and my daughter is an artist in Paris.
I live on the east coast of Australia. I love having visitors. The door is open.
