Robin's Story

Life is A Blessing: My partner and I have been together 11 1/2 yrs. We are raising Grandchildren, Godchildren and our biological children for a total of 10 kids. Their ages are from 4 - 19. Several of these children have Learning Disabilities and Emotional or Behavioral problems due to drug addiction at birth. I did a lot of partying during High School, but I finally grew up. My partner and I have been Clean and Sober for 9 1/2 yrs. now. I try to help others (children & adults) see that the "Fast Life" is just a Death Wish. I've been active in the Legislation as an Advocate for Elderly and Childrens Rights. From 1980-1988 I went through a series of surgeries due to a Hip problem and in 1988 I lost my right hip to staff infection. Since then I have to walk with Canadian Crutches. Between the years of Drugs and Alcohol and the surgeries, I aged quickly, but my kids and my partner love me, so who cares what everybody else thinks. I finally found me and learned to love myself. I'm a wonderful mother and grandmother, I'm a great cook and a pretty good artist. My Ex-husband and I have stayed the best of friends. All of the children we're raising have no fathers in their lives, so he has chosen to fill that place in their lives. We play Tee-Ball, Softball and Baseball for a rec. park from February to July and my 19 yr. old is working hard at a Baseball career. We try to make sure our kids stay active in school and we try our best to keep them out of the streets; sometimes we're successful and sometimes they have to learn the hard way. Our 2 oldest girls learned the hard way and that's why we're raising grandchildren. The four godchildren's mother, who was my ex-partner, got caught up in the fast life and walked out on kids. People tell me that some day we will be blessed for raising all these children, and I...Expand for more
tell them we're already blessed. We wake up every morning and hear the kids laughing, singing, arguing or whatever they feel like doing. Each morning I drink my coffee and throw my clothes on. Deb already has the 3 dressed for elementary school. I have to wake the 1 in middle school so she can start getting ready and the 3 in high school always are rushing till the last minute. We have 2 in G.E.D. class with me, so they don't have to get up every morning. Then I'm off to drop the 3 little ones at school, take Deb to work and get back home. On Mondays and Wednesday I have class, on Tuesday I teach an Exercise class. I get the little ones off the bus each afternoon, pick Deb up from work, get home to start dinner and run which ever kid needs to be at what ever. After everyone is in bed, it's my quite time. If I left this world today, I would be satisfied with my life. I may have taken the long way around, but I finally found what I was looking for. I'm very out-going and I never meet a stranger. We also love animals as much as we do kids. We have 3 dogs, 3 cats, Fish, 1 talking Parrot, 3 Guienie Pigs, 2 Turtles. I also Baby-sit other peoples animals when they go out of town. So life is good, I'm happy and satisfied with everything in my life and I'm glad I'm still here. God has truly blessed me and mine. I know He doesn't take me through more than I can with stand and He always loves me not matter what. My children are an inspiration each and every day. Deb has stood beside me even in the beginning through my drinking and the drugs. She never gave up on me. We don't have a lot of money, but we have a lot of love. My mom is our biggest fan. I had to earn her trust all over again when I got clean. She loves our kids and Deb and she's always there for us. I don't know what I would do without her.
