Robyn's Story
Life
Hello Everyone! It's been a long time.
I married May 18, 1973, literally the day after we seniors got out of school and one week before graduation. Just a child, 17 almost 18. I have 2 grown children, Jessica & Zachary. Jessica has 3 children, 2 girls and a boy. Zachary has 1 boy and another on the way. Their Dad and I were married almost 20 yrs. Unfortunantly we didn't make it. Both of my children live in the Victoria area. My daughter just became an RN (2006) and works at Citizens Hospital in Victoria. My son works in a chemical plant at Point Comfort.
Through all these years I have lived in Seadrift, Port Lavaca, Victoria, Houston, Katy, Decker Praire and then back to the Seadrift (where my 1st husband was from). Divored. I remarried in April 95. My current husband Bob is from Refugio. He was transferred from Victoria to Kingsville the year after we married. Never thought I would live this far south. August 2006 will be 10 yrs. in Kingsville. However, we are planning to move to Corpus later this year.
I have worked a multitude of jobs through the years. I worked in retail, selling sporting goods, babysat full time, cleaned houses, waitressed, worked in a gas station, bank teller/loan depart, worked in a man's world to make more money, chemical plant climbing towers, assembly line-12 hr shifts w/o breaks running 2-3 lines (that was killer-divorced w/teens) and then moved up to data entry. Remarried and about a year later we moved to Kingsville. I decided that I didn't want to start all over in the local plants. I had worked ...Expand for more
really hard to get where I was and it was an OK job (data entry) but it wasn't anything that I felt passionate about. We were moving to a university town so I decided that I wanted to go to school.
So... I started going to school right here at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. It was pretty intimidating at first because I did not make good grades in high school. Of course, I didn't really apply myself back then (I used to be pretty shy-insecure). I am proud to say that I graduated Summa Cum Laude with my BS in Criminology and thought that I was going to be a Juvenile Probation Officer. However, I decided that I wanted to be a counselor. Therefore, I continued in school and received my Master's in Psychology plus did the additional 18 hrs the state requires for the LPC(licensed prof counselor) in August 2004. I also took a Clinical Pastoral Education course separate from my univ. experience, while in grad school. It is a 15 month intensive class, one day a week all day, and I am now a certified Chaplain for the state of Texas. So, I got a late start professionally, however, with all of the hard work and life experience, I truly appreciate my education.
My first professional job was with Mental Health Mental Retardation in Early Childhood. Working with developmentally delayed children and their families. However, I just started my masters' level position in Feb 2006. I am the Director of Methodist Children's Home Outreach office of Corpus Christi, Foster Care Placement. It is wonderful to be working with a Christian organization. Answered prayer!
