Robyn's Story

First thing I see sitting here...."Share Your Story". How does one exactly do that with people they haven't seen in almost 40 years? There isn't enough time in a day let alone in one page. I remember thinking my Dad wasn't very smart at all, and that I had all the answers to life, I didn't need college...I was in "love" and therefore left in my senior year to get married and have my 1st child. Well, 39 years, five more children, and still working in retail, I have realized my Father was probably the smartest man I knew. It's been a LONG rocky path for travel over the last 39 years, but I have learned alot about loyalty, trust, commitment, love, and perseverance. I've wanted to give up SO MANY times, but just HAD to prove my Dad wrong, that I COULD make it. Thank God for Albertsons!! I worked for the company for 28 years, half of that time in management. I then decided it was time to try my management skills in giving back to my community so I was hired on by Value Village, but after being there for 9 months I started observing things being done and was told to also continue doing that I was not comfortable with, so I gave notice and left. A few days days later I was hired by Walmart. They originally asked me if I would want to lead the grocery side of the store, of which I wanted nothing to do with!! I wanted totally away from food. So, the...Expand for more
y asked me to take over the apparel departments. I ran that area for 5 months and proved I wouldn't bankrupt them or set anything on fire...so I am now in charge of running the whole home lines department...all 60 aisles!! I am now rethinking grocery would've been MUCH easier. So, I guess in a way in the end I have shown my Father that I did make it in my life without college, I make more money than alot of people with a degree, but I had to go thru alot to get there. So, career stuff done....now for other stuff. Earlier I mentioned I have 6 children. They are 39, 36, 33, 28, 23, and 19. My last child just moved out and I'm finding myself feeling lost and somewhat broken. We as parents always looked forward to these days right? I remember the days of saying "I can't WAIT until they turn 18 and MOVE out"! But then...that day comes, and you stand there looking at the empty room that once held a crib. So, that's somewhat of my story, my life the last 39 years has been about survival. Being there everyday for 6 little people to help mold them into decent human beings, before sadly releasing them from my hand. So now I find myself getting to do what you all got to do 39 years ago.....start MY life. Figure who I am as a person, not a Mom. And, I get to do it with all the knowledge and life experience you guys didn't have then!! Watch me fly now.
