Rod's Story
I am a Viet Nam vet having served 2 1/2 yrs as a machine gunner/weapons expert for the US Navy on patrol boats (USS Clarion River, LSMR 66-67 & Harbor Patrol Boats 68-69), mostly in the DaNang area. Upon completetion of military worked for a subsidiary of Chrysler Corp for 10 yrs as a Industrial Engineer & then simply go tired of it & wanted something new. In the mean time I went back to night school working on an Industrial Management degree. Since electronics were obviously the new direction we were heading I focused on that & became a Production Control Specialist with more of an interest in the warehouse end of manufacturing. 9 yrs later, you guessed it, I was somewhat bored again. I then found myself in being in that "right place at the right time" situation. I went to work in the Entertainment Industry for Phil Colins (& Genises) in Dallas at a company that manufactured & leased lighting equipment to "whoever". Since it was a warehouse environment, I felt right at home. Didn't want to go the road as a roadie but did help set up concerts in the Dallas area if I was needed. Many of the stars are cool to be around but for every 1 there were 2 with the egos & politics of the industry & after 4 yrs it was enough for me. Got back to managing a warehouse & its shipping & receiving functions for the next 14-15 yrs until I retired.
I have been married to the same wonderful lady for 42 yrs who been patient & tolerate with me, especially the 1st 2-3 yrs after Viet Nam, & who has graced me with 2 wonde...Expand for more
rful sons & a beautiful, talented singing (CW music) daughter. And they have graced us with 4 grand children & 2 great grand children. My wife & I love to travel when we can & really love & enjoy Colorado & Washington, D.C. & yes, we have been fortunate enough to tour the White House. Some of you may have. To me, if you are any kind of American at all, it's an incredible feeling in the house that history built. Being a native Texan there are, quite naturally, a number of places here in the home state we enjoy going to from time to time.
Most of my time I spend surfing the web looking for friends, looking to make new friends, & looking for guys I was stationed with in the service. I enjoy playing golf, especially with my oldest son. I don't play the game well at all but, by-golly, if you are playing with us, I will make you look SO good! Am an avid baseball fan! Am a avid Dallas Maverick fan! Am a avid Dallas Stars fan. Am a avid NASCAR & Nationwide & Truck fan.
My wife & I are active members of our church. We have both taught classes & she sings with the choir. No, no, no......,I Don't sing; you don't want to hear me sing. Founded a puppet ministry at Vansickle Baptist Church about 14 yrs ago & is loads of fun...lot's of work putting a program together...but lot's of fun & very rewarding.
Ok, I must apologize right here for this Novela. Intensions weren't to write a novel. It is so easy to let it get away from you when you start to reminisce about the past.
Well, all that said, let's move on!
