Rodney's Story
Life
While at Highlands, I was active in science, on the Varsity tennis team and was band president my senior year. I attended SMU for two years before transferring to Duke as a zoology/genetics major (spent one Summer at the Duke Marine Lab). Got my Ph.D. in Immunogentics from UT-Austin in 1977 and immediately moved to NYS as a professor (of Immunotoxicology) at Cornell (in Ithaca, NY). My research concerns the risk surrounding fetal exposure to toxic chemicals. I also previously directed both the toxicology institue (ICET) and the program on breast cancer and environmnetal risk factors (BCERF) at Cornell.
Following a 20 yr. marriaqe and mid-90s divorce, I recently remarried (2004). I have two tennis-playing sons: one is in college in NYS and the other in PA
School
My years at Highlands were a true delight and I so cherish the whole experience. I was active in science, played clarinet in the Owl's marching and concert bands and was band president my senior year. I also played singles on the varsity tennis team. I remember fondly many of those wondereful and dedicated teachers we had back then. Most o...Expand for more
f my closest connections involved fellow students (years 68-72) in the band, in science classes or on the tennis team.
College
Following HS, I attended SMU for two years as a Biology major before transferring to Duke. While at SMU, I was in the Mustang Band (saxophone)and subsequently in the Duke band(clarinet). At Duke, I majored in Genetics/Zoology doing two stints in undergradute research and spending a Summer at the Duke Marine lab. I was priviledged to be one of two Rhodes nominees from Duke for my 1974 graduating class. My Ph.D. was from U. of Texas-Austin in Immunogenetics (1977).
Workplace
Following my doctoral graduation from UT-Austin (1977), I became a professor at Cornell Univ.-Ithaca. Despite shifting colleges and departments over the years, I have continued to perform research on the health risks of exposure to chemicals during pregnancy on the immune system of the offspring. At Cornell I have directed both the Toxicology Institute and the Program on Breast Cancer and Environmental Risk Factors. I teach undergraduate, graduate and veterinary students in the areas of toxicology and immunology.
