Rodney's Story
Well, it's been nearly 30 years since I walked the halls of Sky View...as a student, that is. During my attendance at USU, I worked there as a janitor. I had many good laughs - getting even with the old grumpy janitors! It was glorious stuffing rubber snakes in the towel machines hearing those old farts yell and stumble around trying to avoing getting bit by a snake they thought was after them! Oh well, too much fun to mention here!
After highschool graduation I worked at Juniper Inn as a cook saving my money for a mission which I served from 1979 to 1981. I went to the Indiana, Indianapolis mission. After that, I came home, met the love of my life at an institute dance and we were married on July 7, 1983 in the Salt Lake temple. (We are now celibrating our 25th - in 2008) We have have 3 kids ranging from 19 - 4...yea, I know it's a big spread, but I wouldn't change it for nothing. At least this way we have a free baby sitter and we'll always be as young at heart as our smallest child!
After getting married, I attended USU and graduated in 1987 with a BS in Geography. After graduation my wife and I moved to Ft. Worth, TX for 7 years where I worked for the USDA/NRCS as a GIS Specialist. 1995, we moved back up to Utah where I worked for the USDA/Farm Service Agency. At thi...Expand for more
s location, I developed procedures and methods using GIS software I programed for cutting out image tiles based on the geographic location for the 2500 USDA service centers nation-wide. I worked at this location for 7 years then was promoted to be the GIS coordinator for the State of Utah (my current position) where I am able to help the personnel in the service centers in Utah become more efficient in assisting the farmers and ranchers in the state.
In my personal life, I've had many trials, ups and downs, but without these, there would be no happiness. While living in TX, I used my musical background and re-learned piano and eventually became acquainted with the organ. When we moved to Utah, I was put in as an organinst in our ward for about 9 years. The biggest culture shock was when I was released and put in as SCOUT MASTER! I've been doing this since 2003 and absolutely love it...especially since my 12 year old son is in my troop. It makes it nice. I really enjoy Mtn. Biking, hiking, hunting, shooting, archery, working on cars, running...well, anything outside or on a piano keyboard...anything but TV - YUCK (I hate TV)
Anyway, I hope all is well with you (whoever you are). Send me an email if you want. I'd love to hear from you.
Good Luck!
