Rodney's Story
Retired In 2000, after more than 25 years in the Army as a Senior Intelligence Operations Specialist. When I retired from the Army, I tried the corporate world for a few years in senior management, but found it somewhat boring and slow paced. During my military career I traveled extensively throughout South and Central America and Asia. I also made a few trips to Europe. In September of 2005, I went back to work for the Federal Government. Since then I've spent a total of 62 months split between Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan with a few months in Romania, Turkey and Krzykstan. I am currently preparing for a nine month trip to Iraq. I can retire a second time in Sept 2014 but will probably work a couple more years, just to stay young. I've been married to the same woman for 38 years. (Yes, I found someone that would put up with me for that long.) We have two grown children. Our son Rod Jr.owns a construction company and our daughter Jenni is with the sheriff's department in our county. Jenni gave us our grandson Ethan (my best buddy) who is 10. He plays baseball, soccer and football. Our son, and his wife blessed us with a ...Expand for more
grand daughter, Avery, a true southern belle! She is 7, loves soccer and goes to the club on Thursday nights with "Pops" to play golf. They all live within 15 minutes of us in Clarksville, TN. After a high school career of solid "C" grades I've managed to get a few college degrees. I play a lot of golf in my spare time and my wife and I try to travel regularly in my new toy. (After one of my trips to Afghanistan, my wife surprised me by buying me a red Corvette.) ONE OF US IS HAVING A MID-LIFE CRISIS! We enjoy travelling together despite the fact that neither of us like to fly. She doesn't golf but is an expert at finding stores to shop in while I play. I enjoy visiting the BH-BL area for a couple weeks every year. I'm still in close contact with Greg Bradtke. We talk on the phone and email regularly and he visits me in TN and I always make time for him when I go home to visit. We manage to play some golf every year and we are taking our third trip out west elk hunting in October. Since our reunion have started playing golf with Mark Gottung a couple times a year. He and Liz (Class of 74) live four hours away in Atlanta.
