Rodney's Story

Life I am married and this year marks our 24th anniversary. We have two girls, 16 and 18, and a great relationship with them which I credit to the training we have all received from Landmark Education. My wife and I have just returned from almost a month in Europe and Norway: 16 days touring as members of the Ohlone Chamber Singers and the reset of the time with relatives in Norway. We live in Fremont, CA. I know, yuck Fremont, but it was what we could afford back then and now we’re comfortable. After I left high school, I studied music for eight years before deciding I couldn’t make a living at it and taking a degree in computer science with a minor in music. I have worked for the last 20 years as a software engineer with a focus on human interface (GUI) design and object implementation. I am currently working at Ditech Communications in Mountain View and revisiting music as a creative outlet: writing, performing and generally looking for ways to get my music out there and help others to do the same through performing groups, creative partnerships and whatever else suggests itself. I like to cook, hike, draw and work with my hands, when I have the time. My oldest daughter likes to hike Mission Peak as our Together time. It’s tough walk for her but we get three hours of quality time to talk about whatever’s on our minds, and that is really the cool part. I take them out from time to time, to do whatever they want, within reason of course, so we can have some one-on-one time. It’s a great way to stay connected though some of the questions they come up with can be very tough to answer. At present and looking to the future, I am in the process of building a new life. What that will look like I have no idea, but the process is fun and exciting. What I do know is that there will be music and pe...Expand for more
rforming, friends from around the world, opportunities to make a difference in people’s lives and above all, lots of love. School My school life was rather dull. I spend eight years studying music at De Anza college and San Jose State, only to decide that I didn’t have what it takes to make a living at it. Most of that time I was dirt poor while the rents just kept rising. Quitting school and spending a few years working installing and servicing garage doors convinced me to go back to school and learn something useful, like computers. About that time I met and married my wife and shortly thereafter was laid off. I spend the next five years working part-time and going to school full time to earn my AA and BA in computer science. And since then I haven'’t been back, except for short courses at university extensions in technical subjects. I remember very little about high school. I had pretty much tuned out, due to troubles at home, and so I remember a handful of faces and even fewer names. Most of it's just a blur. I've been thinking more about it lately and more comes back, but I never really noticed or remembered people's names, even when I was supposed to, so, for the most part, I haven't clue about who on this site I might have known back then. Career wise, I spent 25+ years as a software engineer until a downturn caused me to set up my own business as a hypnotherapist and alternative healer (A Questioning Spirit) I am currently working on my clinical certification. I have doing a lot of theater in the past few years, mostly at Lyric Theater in San Jose. I am currently the president of Mission Peak Chamber Singers. Formerly the Ohlone Chamber Singers, which we took independent as a 503(c) non-profit corporation a few years ago. We have two daughters, one in graduate school and the other working.
