Rodolfo's Story
What can I say! I married my high school sweetheart 4 years after HS graduation then divorced 2.5 years later. Getting married was a BIG mistake, nonetheless, it was a very good learning experience. I vowed never to do it again! WRONG! I did it again, under diress and have regretted it since. Just kidding, of course! It's been good but hey, it's always going to be work anyway! Right?
I have worked as a teacher (3 years in elementary & 2 years in Jr High, all in Fort Worth) then moved to Austin, Tx, in August of 1978 and have been here since. Came to finish school here at UT and finally completed in 1981! Hell, I have enough hours as an undergrad to have a doctorate! And then some! It was always my intention to return to Fort Worth, however, being a musician myself and discovering the music scene here in Austin, I stayed!
While teaching in Fort Worth, I discovered that many of my students in the elementary school were getting high on cannabis (mota/marijuana) and other things such as glue and spray paint! Needless to say, I was astonished and began working with them and their families because of this.
Then discovered that most of the parents were doing things too! Well, I've been a Drug Abuse Counselor ever since then! and have been one for 37 years now. Currently working at the Travis County Juvenile Probation Department in their Residential Facility as the Sr. Drug Counselor. I have worked for the, formerly known, Texas Commission on Alcohol & Drug Abuse as the Coordinator for Cultural & Special Populations with a specialty with ...Expand for more
Border Issues, Native American Tribes and Farm Worker issues. That job provided me with an opportunity to travel not just across Texas all the time but, across the entire country. It also provided me the opportunity to be assigned on a couple of Federal Panels in Washington DC on Substance Abuse issues for Border & Native American concerns.
Aside from all of that, I have continuously played in numerous bands since the age of 13, have had the opportunity to record CD's and tapes and am currently playing the Congas with a Latin Jazz band here in Austin. The group is called "Gruvo"
I am currently married, for the second time, have 3 step children ages 28, 21 & 19 and have 5 grandchildren ages 11, 9, 7, 4 and 1.5. The thing is, though I vowed never to wed again, I not only ate my words but, I became a husband, a father and a grandfather all in one shot! isn't that amazing?
Politically, I'm as far left as one can safely go! I have participated in numerous marches, demonstrations on many issues that have included; the Civil Rights Movement, to the Chicano Movement, the American Indian Movement, the Anti-Vietnam War Movement, Police Brutality and, hey, the list goes on and on!
The thing is, I genuinely love life and believe in people! I am very Spiritual but am definitely not religious!
So, with all of this said, I hope that no one fears me! I love and believe in humanity! Everyone please feel free to respond! I can't wait to hear from all of you, whomever you may be! Hasta la proxima! Peace & Power to the People!
