Roger's Story

Life Attended Butte Jr. High then Butte High until midway through my Junior year in 1965. Lived in Mill Valley, CA from December 1965 until 1998, graduating Tamalpais H.S. in '67. Went to Marin Junior College and then attended the University of Idaho majoring in Communications. Worked in radio in the S.F. Bay Area as a DJ until 1998. Moved to Oregon in '98 where I continued working as a DJ. I live in Corvallis, home of the 2006, 2007 and 2018 NCAA National Baseball Champions, the Oregon State Beavers. Love living here. No longer in radio. Retired in 2010. UPDATED INFO: My wife of nearly 33 years, Jo Anne Fletcher Dammarell, passed away on February 17, 2008. I retired from Radio in 2010 and now work as a Tour Director for Road Scholar and Trafalgar. I work seasonally from early May until late October taking guests to locations in the Pacific Northwest, British Columbia, small ship cruises on the Great Lakes and Steamboat trips on the American Queen on the Mississipi, Columbia, Snake and other tributaries. In the off season I follow Oregon State Football and Men's Basketball. I'm a huge fan of the Oregon State Women's Basketball team and had the pleasure of traveling to Dallas and Indianapolis--watching them make the Sweet Sixteen, Elite Eight and Final Four, when they eventually lost to #1 Connecticut. This amazing group of young women Student Athletes ended the season ranked #2 in the nation. Still a huge fan and the Oregon State Women's basketball team is now considered one of the power schools in the country. Was in Butte a few years ago on our way to Yellowstone. And, of course, I pigged out on pork chop sandwiches at Original John's. Had some great times and met some great people while I lived in...Expand for more
Butte. Made a few life-long friends. What more can you ask for? Thought I'd add this: Attended the Class of '67 40th Reunion and had a great time. (Although I graduated from high school in California, I still feel more connected to ol' BHS and my friends in Butte.) Saw and talked to a lot of classmates I hadn't seen in 40 years. It was nice to hear of the great things many of you are doing helping others. It was sad to see how many of our classmates are no longer with us. Also found that Paul Bunyon's Sandwich Shop makes pork chop sandwiches the way John's used to make 'em. They were GREAT! Don't know if I'll make it to the 50th, but thanks to those of you who put together the 40th! UPDATED INFO: Still hope to make it to the 50th, if I can fit it in my busy summer tour schedule. I'm typically on the road 120-130 days from May to October. This year (2016) I'm doing fewer trips because I had major spinal surgery in April. I am back on the road after 3 months of downtime. I love what I do, so it's great to be out on the road again. MORE UPDATED INFO 2020: I did attend the 50th BHS Class of '67 reunion. Stayed with my buddy John Emerson and his wife Rita. Ate more pork chop sandwiches. Saw a lot of classmates I hadn't seen in many, many years. Hey, we were all upright and breathing. Major accomplishment. I plan on attending the 60th (or 55th if there is one) reunion. Still work as a Tour Director at Road Scholar. Did my first international trip a couple of years ago. Took my group of 30 to Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. COVID-19 has scratched my 2020 schedule for the most part. Hope to get back out on the roads/lakes/rivers of our great country soon. Hope this finds you all well.
