Email me: roger.hill(at)hiteach.net Born in Liverpool, moved to Canada in 1967, attended Tecumseh Senior Public School on Woodward Avenue in Burlington, and then BCHS. Went to Waterloo for a while in Computer Science, and fell in love with the money in their Co-op program. Worked at Sears Canada as a programmer, Woolco and Co-Operators Data Services (Mississauga) as a Systems Programmer, Systems Xcellence (Milton) as a Systems Administrator, and I contracted for a while, assisting companies migrate their computers.
I'm now the technology manager for a multi-branch financial institution, with head office 5 minutes from home.
I'm very active in astronomy, and I'm currently the president of the Hamilton Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. Last year I managed to combine my two passions, and installed a computer network 8000 feet above sea level in the Atacama Desert in Chile. stood 17,650 feet high. Half the atmosphere was below me!
Last november, I was on a cruise with Ron Zabel and his wife...we visited 5 islands in the Carribean in a week. The cruise was okay, but I'd much rather be on an island where I can explore at the pace I want to. So, Ron and his wife and me and mine will head off down to St. Martin next winter for a week.
Also in the cards is a trip down to FLorida to see a Shuttle launch, before the last one launches. I had the chance in December, 1972, to see Apollo 17 leave for the Moon. I friend of mine had a syndicated cable show and was looking for a cameraman. We'd have been in the press area, rubbing shoulders with people like Walter Cronkite. However, it was during school, and my paernts wouldn't let me go. I certainly never guessed that there wouldn't be another visit to the Moon for over 40 years.
