Roger Spillmann:

CLASS OF 1988
Winter park, FL

Roger's Story

I was so sorry to have learned about the reunion too late. For me the last three decades have flown by. I do however remember many of the class of 1988 fondly. As for me, over the last years, I have been there and back from NY to Brazil to Spain and now reside in Southern California. It is a fine place to live, albeit expensive. Think sunny Florida weather without the humidity. After graduating from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, I moved to NY. After four years, I decided not to pursue a law career, settling instead for Wall Street. In NY, I met my wife Claudia in 1995 at a bar in Soho and five years later we got married. We had our first child, Sofia, in 2002; our second Alyson in 2007 and then our third Emily in 2018. Yes, I will be that "grand-dad dad" at graduation. After 9/11, we moved to California for both career and lifestyle. We live between San Diego and L.A. in an area much better suited to raise children than the big city. In California, I established an investment consultancy. Later I was recruited to run a public company in the homeland defense industry, and serve as the CEO of an innovative private company in the same...Expand for more
industry. As of this year, I now serve also as CFO of a battery technology company which should revolutionize energy storage. I also serve as director of a Los Angeles based STEM organization, the mission of which is to promote STEM careers for minorities and disadvantaged youths. To this day, I resent not having kept in touch with those I spent many a good time with during my teen years. I guess you can say my folly was to have put too much of my time and focus in my career at the expense of extended relationships. Thank God, I have a wonderful family and many good friends (with room for more). My pace at work is much better since leaving NY and I now have time to truly enjoy the year-long fair weather with my wife, daughters and two rescue dogs. It was fun to read all of the entries and see that success and happiness is measured in so many ways. It also reminded me that life is indeed fleeting and we should all make the most of it. To the class of 88, I hope all are well in both health and circumstance and hope that the reunion was a wonderful success. For those residing in California or visiting, please do not hesitate to look me up.
