Life
I live in Sulphur Springs, Texas. I am a 100% Disabled Vet. I am retired from the Kern Co Sheriff's Dept in California. . I don't miss the bad times I experienced in the Military, but cherish all of the good times. I was stationed at George AFB CA form 1960 through 1963, experienced the Cuban Missile Crisis while assigned to the 329th Fighter Interceptor Squadron. Was one of the first GI's to walk 50 miles for President Kennedy's Physical Fitness Program. In 1963 I was assigned to the Presidents Airborne Command and Control Squadron at Andrews AFB, Washington D.C. when he was Assassinated and sat at the nose of Air Force One when his body was removed. ent to Korea in 1965 and became a founding member of the 2nd DASF (Direct Air Support Flight) at the onset of the Viet Nam War. Today they are called TACPs' (Tactical Air Control Party) They light up the target with a lazer for the incoming weapons system. I left the Air Force in late 1965 but re-entered again in 1971 and served another eight years.Was stationed at Korate Royal Thai AFB in Thailand from 1972 - 1973 got to see the POWs' while their Aircraft refueled for the flight home.
The best assignment I had was as a Student Training Adviser at Lowery AFB Colorado with the 51st School Squadron.
That was the first Co-educational Squadron in the Air Force.
