Roger's Story
Since Graduation in 1963
I have heard from a couple people I knew back in Rawlins High School Days so will try a quick note on my life since then. Graduated from RHS 1963, went to a Meat Cutting Trade School, and went to work for Safeway in Douglas, WY cutting meat. Got married early, was drafted, figured on spending 2 years in the Army, and back to meat cutting. My first wife needed a Kidney Transplant, and I extended, then reenlisted in the Army to have her Medical requirements taken care of. We were divorced, and I had about a 9 year commitment in the Army, so decided to make it a career. I was married and divorced again during my Army Career. The Army could always find a position it needed filled, and I was stationed at Ft. Leonardwood, MO, Ft. Meyer, VA, Ft. any I was involved a serious motorcycle accident, and after 12 years in the Army was medically retired. Went to college, and did not care for it any more than HS, but got a degree in Business Management, from Metropolitan State College in 1983. I settled down in Aurora, CO. Went to work for several companies as a contracted Computer Operator for the Government Military Insurance OCHAMPUS, or later renamed TRICARE. I retired from that position in 2002. I have had a wonderful lady in my life, Irene Merkley, the last 20 years, and we enjoy traveling and doing a little fishing. My Father died in 1971, and my Mother moved back to her childhood home in Nebraska until her death in 2002, so I do not get up to Wyoming very often, but still try to get up there at least once a year to look at the changes since I lived there.
