Ron's Story

Life: Grew up in Monterey, CA BEFORE the disastrous "Urban Renewal." Married Alice on 12/30/73 in St. Louis. One child, a daughter, Donna, born 5/12/75. Have a grandson, Andrew, born 8/22/01. Served in the US Army from 5/3/68 to 2/5/71 and was stationed mainly at Fort Monmouth, NJ Signal School as an Electronics instructor. Lived in Sunnyvale, CA from 9/79 till 3/05. Worked in Electronics and Computer fields, mainly at Singer-Link and Tivoli/IBM. Laid off from my last job in Software Engineering Support (at IBM) on 8/24/01 due to a massive personnel cut and that, for all practical purposes, forced me into retirement. Sold our house and closed escrow on 3/17/05 (VERY lucky decision, as it turned out) and moved out of state. Will most likely live out the rest of my days outside of CA. I DO miss Monterey's fog and cooler weather but am fine otherwise. 2005 was, arguably, the best year of my life however I'd gladly revisit downtown Monterey and Deer Flats of the 1950s in a heartbeat for a short time, if only it was possible. I regret not having taken hundreds of pictures of those locations back then. If anyone has any they can share, I'd be most appreciative! Check out a few old photos of Deer Flats (Memorial Park) I posted here. It was, by far, my favorite childhood and adolescent "stomping ground." I'm in generally good health, thank God! cally keep the pounds off by mainly eating right , taking various natural supplements, fasting at least weekly and working out in the local gym 6-7 days a week for 1-2 hours each visit. Stopped consuming bread, sugar, soft drinks, HFCS, MSG and other virtual poisons. Has helped immensely! Over 90% of my sustenance comes from Whole Foods Market. Highly recommend all of this. I doubt many will remember me as I was not part of the BMOCs or other in-crowds at MHS. Didn't even know I needed to get my senior picture taken at a studio hence you won't see it in the '65 yearbook. Oh well! Shout outs to a few profile visitors, all of whom I had at least passing familiarity while at MHS or earlier:: Rick Phinney, Phyllis Latimer, Greg Bullock, Carol Hall, Judy Schwartz, Paula Byers, Bob Uyeda, Gary Stout, Jesse Velasquez, Bob Oliver and Yvonne Liu. Honorable mentions for Ralph Brock whom I met online through a mutual friend, Paula Robinson and Claudia Costa, a personal hero to me dating back to the sixth grade. She spoke up very unexpectedly on my behalf, a selfless act I'll never forget! Thanks to all others for stopping in even though I don't remember many of you (sorry). The passing of my good friend and our fellow classmate, Alan Williams, on May 18, 1995 grieves me deeply to this day! May he and the many others who have left us rest in peace!
