Ron's Story

Well, at 18 years old and graduating high school, we all thought we had the world by the "you know whats". A bunch of hell raisers and fire pissers. I still remember being called down to the counselors office in November 1972 with every other senior male that had a birthday that month as we had to sign up for our selective service registration card(otherwise known as the draft card). We could never know how our lives would turn out. Some rock and roll star wanna-be's, some Rhodes Scholars, hippies going to find themselves after burning their draft cards, and others that wanted nothing more than to kick some Viet Congs ass half way across the world. Dreams that would never happen and situations that would take us in a totally opposite direction. I remember some guys that were into "ECOLOGY", riding their bikes to school and waving their little green flags with a flourescent peace sign as their reflector. Now they are working for "the man" and going to work in their SUV's and calling their "significant other" on the cell phone as they drive the kids to soccer practice in the mini van. What about that global warming? Not that big of a deal now, huh? Some graduates were reading Wall Street Journal while others were reading all the underground news papers. Musicians often seen glancing thru Buddy magazine and all of us trying to figure out if there really was an Alfred E Newman(Mad Magazine). Ah, most of us have become our moms and dads, even though we swore it would never happen. We take the same medication, rub on the same linament to the joints, and watching the same conservative news programs. The only change is technology. We have CPAP machines to sleep with to keep us breathing and stop snoring. Some still have their long hair and others of us weren't so lucky. Here is how my dream has turned out so far: After graduating from Pearce, I hired with the Dallas Police Department. Patroled mostly S. Dallas around Fair Park and the projects in and around the downtown area. I earned my pay every day and loved each and every minute of it. Was with DPD from 1974 to 1983. Worked towards my degree at Richland and UTD while working full time and many extra jobs. Graduated UTD with a BSBA in Management Information Systems in Aug 1983. Started working in technology in Jan 1984. After many years as a full time employee, I decided to start consulting. Consulted for approx 9 years and currently work as an Assistant Vice President for J P Morgan/Chase in a technology group. Man I sure miss working the streets of Dallas, but at least I'm able to feed the family now. My biggest vices are horses and Harley's. Have owned 3 quarter horses where I ride with a unit in the Shrine. Yes, ...Expand for more
I'm one of those guys that is accused of escorting circus elephants and camels thru the lobbies of 5 star hotels while drunk. The truth is we provide the best care for children burns and orthepedics without any cost to the parents. We never ask for insurance information or check your account balance. Our medical care is top notch and free of charge. Currently have 4 Harley's in the garage and most get ridden on a regular basis. Guess there still is some of the hell raiser in me. Also have 4 kids. 2 girls and 2 boys. All 4 of them are also Pearce graduates. The 2 girls were Pacesetters(and I wouldn't even give a Pacesetter the time of day when I was in school or was it the other way around?) Boy, they did their daddy proud. Both girls graduated from Texas Tech with degrees in Marketing and Retail. Oldest was a buyer for Neiman Marcus and just switched jobs as a buyer for Michaels. Second daughter got married 7-7-07 to a guy that was a crew chief on F-16 fighter jets in the Air Force. He got out in 2007, married our daughter, moved her to Alabama(where he's from) and is completing his degree at Univ of Alabama(I've learned how to say "Roll Tide, unless Tech is playing. Then it's "Guns Up"). She is currently an Assistant Branch Manager for Regions bank in Birmingham. Oldest son completed the fire academy and EMT school. Is currently studing for the National Registry exam for EMT. Youngest just graduated from Pearce and is headed to Texas Tech as well. I'm glad God had the good sense to allow ugly to skip a generation. As you can tell, they're good looking kids(unlike their daddy at that age). Might also have something to do with mama's genes. Whatever the reason, Thank You God. That's about all I've been able to accomplish so far. But the fat lady ain't sung yet. Not what I had planned, but not a bad ride either. The Good Lord hasn't decided it's time for me to take my dirt nap and come home, so this story isn't finished yet. Stay tuned. Always glad to see old faces at get togethers and reunions. Drop me a line or PM me thru this classmates website and will be happy to return a response. P.S. Don't really know how this is going to look since I typed most of it on a PDA in a hotel room while pheasant hunting in West Texas, but I'm bored and Billy Graham isn't on TV. Any hunters out there, drop me a line and we'll try to get out and bag some game. Any motorcycle riders out there, drop me a line also. I drove up to the tip of Wisconsin this year and plan to do California next year(2009). And always remember. A "good" friend is the one you call to bail you out of jail. Your "best" friend is the one sitting beside you saying "Man, did we really do that?"
