Ron's Story

Life Retired now, but barely have enough time to rest. Active in the Catholic Church. I am the principal for the evening Religious Education, 1200 students. (Who would have thought that of me). My wife and I take ball room dance. I lift weights 5 times a week. Run 15 to 25 miles a week. I am also studying for my masters in Theology from Franciscan University, Catholic of course. In retirement my wife and I have been cruising little by little around the world. Have a motor home and as Carolyn, my wife retired we have some major trips planned. Life is very good.... College Left Mira Costa and traveled to Oklahoma State to try my hand at wrestling there. As a walk on managed to work my way up the freshman latter to earn a half scholarship. Had the talent but not the guts so didn't make the varsity. Headed back to California and wrestled for UCLA. Not the greatest of students, but made it through. Wrestled for them, but the women and wine got the best of me. Now studying for a Masters in Theology at Franciscan Universtiy of Steubenville in Ohio. Workplace Now retired, but most of my working life, last 15 years I have been selling computerized estimating systems. These systems measure the diminsions on a plan and develope a list of cost and materials for a building project. I formed my own comp...Expand for more
any in Las Vegas selling Timberline estimating software. Timing could not have been better, what with the building boom and all. I don't consider it work but I volunteer two nights a week and run the evening religious education program at the catholic church. Was doing the Confirmation service projects for the high schoolers for four years. Now that was a trial. Military Not very proud of my service. I did take a year of ROTC at Oklahoma State. Went to enlist in the Marines in 1967 but they wanted me to finish college the next year and I still had a year of wrestling to go. One year of UCLA changed my views in a hurry and by the time I graduated my desire to serve was gone. I got drafted and was not happy about it, but having that wrestler spirit in me I wanted to be the top recruit. So, because the DI was angry at be for not becoming a platoon leader, he matched me up with the largest guy in the unit. I at the time was 130 lbs. I lifted him to my shoulders and ran like hell on the 100 yd man carry. Out popped a hernia, and out of boot camp I went and back to civilian life. I have a great regret about this. Except for about a five year span, late 60's early 70's I have always considered myself very patriotic and conservative. I should have done my duty. I thank those of you who did it for me.
