Ron's Story
Life
After CFHS, I attended Northwestern University for 10 years (BS 1972, MD with distinction 1975, PhD 1975). Then 2 years of internal medicine residency at the Peter Bent Brigham hospital in Boston (Harvard) followed by 3 years of neurology residency at New York hospital in NYC (Cornell). 2 more years as a fellow at Cornell then went to Vanderbilt University in Nashville in 1982 as Asst. Prof. of Neurology. Currently, Professor of Neurology and Pharmacology at Vanderbilt, Chief of Neurology at the Nashville Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Director, Lab of Experimental Neurology. Board certified in Neurology and Internal Medicine.

ed a letter in wrestling at Northwestern and then played rugby for 10 years (1972-1982) including Lincoln Park Rugby Club in Chicago, Boston Rugby Club and Manhattan Rugby Club. Toured England and Ireland with Boston RFC in 1977 and played for New York Metro Select Side in 1979.
Member of Society for Neuroscience, Amer. Neurological Assn, and fellow of Amer. Academy of Neurology. Published >120 scientific articles, 20 book chapters and 2 books. Pioneered the use of targeted toxins in neuroscience. Currently working on the neurobiology of pain and new approaches to treatment of chronic pain (see Science News, early 12/99 for article entitled "Killing the Messenger" that describes current research.)
