Ron's Story
Life
After early schooling in Kansas City, MO, and Pueblo, CO, I graduated from High School in Southern California. I married my High School Sweetheart, Jane Walker, in 1969. We have 2 grown sons. Drew is a successful comic artist living in Hollywood and married to Karen who is a director on 'The Simpsons". Their daughter, Cole, was our first grandchild and their new son, Quinn has just arrived. Robin is a Univ. of Oregon graduate in Business, now working as a brewer at Deschutes Brewery in Bend, OR. .His wife, Alandra, is an editor on the daily newspaper. Their daughter, Phoebe, was born in 2011.
I began my college education at Cal-State Long Beach (1967-70) where I was a classmate of Karen Carpenter's and many other well known musicians. After 3 years in the 6th Army Band at the Presidio in San Francisco, I returned to school and completed my Bachelor and Masters degrees in music at West Virginia University. Then I changed careers and I've worked in education as Chair of Performing Arts at Lane Community College in Oregon (1993-1999) and as Dean of Fine Arts, Communication, and Education at Shasta College in California. I received my Doctorate in Education from Oregon State University in April, 2002. In July, 2007, we relocated to College of the Sequoias in Visalia, CA, where I was Vice President of Academic Affairs. I recently completed a 6 month assignment as Interim Vice President of Instruction at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, CA, and am now looking either to get a new permanent job, or just keep on enjoying retirement and taking one or two interim assignments each year. UPDATE: 2015.... I returned to Orange Coast College in January this year. From January to July I covered two divisions as Dean of Technology and Dean of Business and Computing. I was hired for the permanent position of Dean of Business and Technology beginning in July and Jane and I have relocated to Orange County.
