Ronald's Story

Well it's been a while. After HS Class of 75, I spent some time in college (Southeast Missouri State-SEMO) with major studies in 10 cent and 25 cent draft beer from 76-79. I joined the navy in 1980. 30 years later I'am back. Seen the world and have many stories of that adventure. I have never had a bad day in the Navy, just some a little worse than others. I enlisted in the United States Navy in January 1980. After completing Boot Camp at NTC Great Lakes, Illinois, and FFG pipeline training at Fleet Antisubmarine Training Center Pacific, San Diego, California I reported to USS FLATLEY (FFG-21) completing deployments to the Persian Gulf/Mediterranean Sea. In 1985, I reported to Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island, War Gaming Department. In 1989, I reported to USS WILLIAM V. PRATT (DDG-44) in Charleston, South Carolina. i participated in numerous fleet exercises in the North Atlantic, Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea along with a deployment to the Red Sea/Mediterranean. In 1991 I reported to USS SOUTH CAROLINA (CGN-37) and served as Leading Chief Petty Officer in the Anti-submarine Warfare Division. In 1993 I reported to FLEASWTRACENLANT as Course Supervisor and Leading Chief Petty Officer in the acoustics department. In October 1994, I received his commission as a Limited Duty Officer, Surface Electronics. Upon graduating from Officer Indoctrination School, I reported to USS STUMP (DD-978) as the Electronics Material Officer in December of 1994 and participated in numerous fleet exercises, Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea along with a deployment to the Red Sea/Mediterranean. In 1998 I reported to NCTAMSLANT where he rapidly qualified as JFTOC W...Expand for more
atch Officer and provided seamless communication support to the Atlantic fleet. I reported to USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) as the Communications Maintenance Officer in 2000. USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT was “First to Deploy” after 11 September 2001 tragedies, and was fundamental in Operation Enduring Freedom. In 2004 I became the twelfth Officer in Charge of Fleet Combat Systems Operational Sequencing System (CSOSS) Development and Implementation Team reporting directly to CNSL N6. During this tour, I had overseen the new implementation of CSOSS on new LPD class, all Mine hunters, and over 200 other ship updates. I then reported to USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN-69) as Combat Systems Maintenance Officer (CSMO) near end of RCOH. During this tour I helped bring IKE back to life leading his troopers through Sea Trials, Flight Deck Cert, NAVCERT, EMI Cert, and an arduous training cycle preparing her for deployment. Next I completed a simaliar tour as on IKE but this time on USS CARL VINSON (CVN-70) as CSMO during RCOH and PSA/SRA ship yard periods and retired for the UNITED STATES NAVY after 30 years on 28 February 2010. Iam married to the former LaNette Sue Hillman of Sellersburg, Indiana. and have two sons, Zachary, and Noah. The Bent family resides in Smithfield, Virginia. During my service to our country I earned the following decorations; Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (7 awards), Navy Achievement Medal (3 awards), Good Conduct (4 awards) as well as various other unit and campaign awards. It's good to be back and interested in seeing what I have missed. That's the short story. I'm retired now and sit a home enjoying life!
