Ronald's Story

Life Life has been good to me and it's not over by a long shot. I found the Love of my Life and look forward to growing old with her. We've been married 27 years, which has been much too short. I have three children, two boys and a girl, Linda (my wife) has two girls. So we raised five children and have 8 grandkids. I have enter my second adulthood and now I can begin to achieve some of the goals that I was simply too young to do before. My kids are all adults and I love it. I really love grandkids, none of the pressure of them being yours, along with the responsibility, yet, all of the fun. I've been self employeed for almost 20 years, not all great, but always new. I'm doing economic development and having a ball, mostly international because that's where the money is, and without a lot of headache. In 2005 I was appointed the American Voice of the Zulu Nation and I have a long term contract for the economic development of the Zulu Nation Life has not always been rosy, but it's always been fun. School I really hated school, it was boring and my way(the teacher's) or else. I skipped school a lot, but most times at the library. I could read what I wanted. The military saved me. It settled me down and I learned some things that have stayed with me, all of my life. Did a lot of things that I don't talk about, most of the time I'd rather just forget it. There were some good times in school, the people I met, but mostly a period that I would rather not think about. College College was great for me. It was where I begin to learn the value of an education. I had a love-hate relationship with school be...Expand for more
fore, and I think it was because I knew there was much more to school than I had gotten. The GI bill made it possible for me to go to college. It paid for my undergrad education and fellowships paid for the rest. I had great teachers for my under grad work, my grad work was really great, I had Dr. C. Young as a grad advisor, who by the way really knew his stuff, many people didn't like him, but I thought he was on the ball, and had no peers at the time when it came to Southern Africa. The Humprey Experience give wide range exposure to peers in many fields and provided a network that has proven to be very valuable. I will not forget it. In addition for a year, we were exposed to, as guest speakers, some of the best minds in America. Workplace My first job out of school was really a lot of fun. Design Coalition was a counter culture fun place to work. Social work was okay, but too many barriers to really do your job. PR was okay, but you get tired of lying to people. International Development is a real rush. I get to use the Urban Planning and Political Science. I have a contract now that will run the rest of my life. I am the American Voice of the ZULU Nation of South Africa. I do a lot of economic development work for them, and will be partnershipping with Fairview-University Hospital to put an HIV/AIDS Research Center in the ZuLu Capital of Ulundi. The gentleman on the left side of the photo with me is Dr. M.G. Buthelezi, Prime Minister of the Zulu Nation As an undergrad I dreamed of doing this, and now the dream has come true. My only prayer is that God will not let me let these people down.
