Ronald's Story

School Looking to get in touch with as many Class of "65" classmates as possible. Haven't seen you all since our 25th reunion. I didn't have a chance to refresh my memories, since my Yearbook had been lost many years ago. However, I managed to find a copy at the Salem Library and photocopied the entire book. At our 40th, I should be a little more refreshed with everone's names, etc. Well, I have five children and six grand-daughters, one grandson and am into my 26th year as a member of The Los Angeles Police Department. I plan on finishing up my career in a couple more years. I also have a voluntary additional job as of Aug 8,2002 as an L.A.P.D. Chaplain. I'm not ordained, but work as a lay-chaplain, attending/officiating at funerals, counseling, opening prayers at functions and just being there as a Peer Counselor when a fellow Officer needs someone to listen. I live in Valencia, California(about 45 miles North of Los Angeles and 20 minutes from the San Fernando Valley-where I work) and attend The Grace Baptist Church, where my wife Kaye(short for Kathleen) and I sing in a 120 member choir, accompanied by a 50 piece orchestra. Mr Cowan would be proud of me. After all these years and still singing. Of course now I'm singing praises to Our Lord. I remember my first song debut at the Talent Contest in 1961. I sang The DO-Re-Mi Song and tied for first place with David Sobolewski, who played piano. We both won five silver dollars. That really helped out with Christmas gifts that year. Anyway, please send me messages when you have a moment. I would love to share memories and get caught up on some of your lives.God Bless, Ron "Ronnie" Carter P.S. Ephesians 1:18-19 Part-II Well, the 40th reunion was great. I really enjoyed seeing all of those who were able to make it. Andy Cerullo (Andy Babe) showed up, wearing his customary "Beatle-Boots" and full of the dickens, or "dickies" or something like that. I can remember wearing "dickies"-false turtle-necks back then. I got great pictures of some of you and posted them on the Photo album here on this site, for all to see. Feel free to add to the albums and share your shots with everyone. I plan on making it to our next reunion. (45th or 50th) and hope that we can make it a little more personal for our class. It was a great idea to combine classes this time, but some of us would like to spend more time on nostalgia and just telling some of our personal stories with the class. Anyway, got to go get ready for that old alarm clock to ring at 0445 hours. Have a busy day fighting crime in Los Angeles for the next few day...Expand for more
s and then I get ready to sing in three Christmas Concerts at our church. Hope you enjoyed a great Thanksgiving Day. Did I mention that I was born on Thanksgiving Day in 1947? And I sincerely wish you all a wonder-filled Holiday Season. Remember the Reason for the season! It's the Birthday of Jesus. Happy Holidays! Your Classmate, Ron Carter Workplace Well, where do I start? During school, I wanted to buy my own 1st car and I worked at the Lawrence Maid Shoe Shop, from 3:30 -12:00 midnight. I went home and did my homework. English always suffered, so I eventually quit my job, but not until I was able to buy a 1959 Ford Fairlane 500, 4 door, blue, with lots of chrome all around. What a tank! I hitch-hiked to California and worked as a furniture mover, Music Industry Road Manager, worked for Jan Berry of Jan & Dean at Studio Instrument Rentals, worked for the U.S. Army as a Specialist 5, worked for Bonnie Rait & Little Feat as a Road Manager, worked for Cerwin-Vega Electronics and Speaker Manufacturing for 10 years and now the LAPD for the past 25 years and 185 days. What a long and winding road. I wouldn't trade any of it or do any of it over again differently. Life's experiences are what shape your character Boy did I turn out to be a character. That's it. I'm done for now. Military As I already stated, I was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1969, but after I entered, I quickly found my niche. I was promoted to Specialist-5 within 18 months and was the Battalion Clerk. If you wanted a day off post, in Germany, you had to see me. When the Commanding Officer and First Sergeant were gone, I was in charge. I was offered West Point and would have stayed in the Military, except for a failing first marriage. I left Gelnhausen Germany and returned to the good ole USA. I made lots of great friends in Germany and even got to play in a post-band, quickly entertaining the troops and even doing a few private parties (Officers tipped really well)The German country-side was spectacular. Even though I signed up for Viet Nam (they were giving an early out if you did) I ended up in Germany. Lots of great memories and great pictures from Germany, Holland, the Rhine River, Amsterdam and around Frankfurt. Great food too! Well, I got back into a para-military outfit in 1982, joining the LAPD at age 34-1/2, which made me the oldest one in my class of 84 recruits. Only 56 of us graduated and I was proud to be in the graduating class of 09/82. It's already been 25+ years this past September and I'm still enjoying a very rewarding career. Better late than never.
