Ronald's Story

Life and times, well I got out of School and went to work in the road construction business as a matter of fact if you have ever driven over the elevated section of Highway 75 from I 30 to Ross Avenue in Downtown Dallas you have driven on some of the bridge work that I built. I worked there with my grandfather and a crew of men building concrete forms and setting them then tying rebar steel and pouring concrete and then finishing and wrecking off the forms then starting the process all over again. I married a girl from Trinidad Texas shortly there after and we were married for 4 years and had a baby girl that died at birth she is buried in Trinidad Texas next to her Grandmother after the baby died we decided that we had made a mistake and married far to young and decided to divorce and move on with both our lives. I decided that I wanted to do some other kind of work and got started in the plumbing business and did that for about 16 years and got my master plumbers license and worked at that until the bottowm fell out of the building industry and I nearly went broke, in the mean time I was single for about 2 years after the divorce and I met a girl from Irving Texas and we got married in 1977 and have been married now for 32 years. I have 2 children the girl was born first when I was 29 years old and the boy came along 4 years later. They are both grown and my daughter is married. She went to school and got her M.A. and is a physicians assistant. My son is still going to college at UT Arlington and is going to be a History teacher and coach when he graduates next May. I have 4 grandchildren already 2 girls and 2 boys and I love them dearly but I am glad they are not mine to have on a 24/7 basis. Along the way I dropped out of the plumbing business and got into heavy commercial hvac and went to work on the Comanche Peak Nuclear Electric generation plant in Glen Rose Texas, I worked there until the re-fit on unit one was complete and then I got laid off and went on unemployment for about a year and working a few cash handy man jobs to make ends meet while looking for work. I finally got hired on with a company in Grand Prairie Texas called H.A.C. it was a FAA aircraft repair station directly next door to the old Dallas Naval Air Station. I started out as a mechanic apprentice and worked my way up the ladder over a 12 and a 1/2 year period and made Composite flight controls Shop Manager with 30 other mechanics in my shop. We worked with some exotic materials such as Kevlar, Graphite and Fiberglass and metals such as Titanium and all grades of Aluminum and Stainless Steel. I was responsible for scheduling the work so that the parts received and then torn down and rebuilt would be ready to ship according to the customer time line requirements. I was also the liason between all other departments to make sure the work flow was not interupted. I worked with the engineers, quality control, etchline layup and bonding and paint shops to make sure the proper materials were used on each part and then ...Expand for more
I was the guy that had to put the final signature on the paperwork certifying that the part was airworthy. Unfortunately the company was sold to Pratt & Whitney and everything changed in 2000 and I could not get along with the managers that they put in charge over me and I finally resigned and walked away. I was out of work for about 9 months and during this period I lost my mother to pancreatic cancer. I happened to run into a old friend at my mothers funeral and he got me the job that I am currently doing. I am now a distribution manager at a warehouse in southwest Dallas and we are the main distributor and parent company of Hooters Restaurants of America. We also distribute salad dressing as a side business and the name of the product is Naturally Fresh Salad dressings, if you walk into just about any major retail store such as Kroger, Tom Thumb, H.E.B. and others as you walk by the bagged salads in the produce department you will see my products on the refrigerated rack right next to them. I have been here 9 years now and I hope to retire from here. I am also a Mason and a Shriner, I attend lodge meetings at the Irving Lodge 1218 where I am currently serving as Chaplain. We support the Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas and the Shiners Burn unit in Galveston Texas along with the Orthopedic Hospital in Houston Texas. We also sponsor a Blood Drive once a month at the Irving Mall by the Carter Blood Bank. If you know a parent that has a child with severe birth deformities or with a child that has suffered severe burns or has some orthopedic handicap they can find a Mason and get him to bring them the forms and then fill the forms out and get his signature on the forms they can take the child to either of the hospitals mentioned and they will never have to pay a dime for any medical procedure the child has to have done. That is about all of my story in a nutshell, I have just recently been told that I may have prostate cancer and I am waiting for the pathology report to come back on my biopsy to determine what the next phase of my life will be like. Remember to live life as if it were your last day on earth because we never know if we will get another day. Do all the important stuff first and don't sweat the small stuff in life. Be sure to tell your family each time you walk out the door that you love them and make sure your friends know how important they are to you and how much you love them. If there are any of you out there that are Atheist or Agnostic I have some advise for you that you may find usefull. I would rather live my life believing there is a GOD and die then find out there isn't rather live my life believing there is no GOD and die then find out there is. THINK ABOUT IT!! Love Ron My Heros are Jesus Christ and the American Military Service Jesus laid down his life that all may be saved. The The American Military people are willing to lay down their lives to keep us free from tyranny and terrorism. I can't think of any others that deserve our respect and honor to them more.
