Ronald's Story

-Latest edit entered on May 20,2024. Fitbit just gave me their Pole to Pole Award. It represents the fact that they have recorded over 12,430 steps that I have taken which equates to walking from the North Pole to the South Pole. (It has taken me about 6 years to do this.) I currently walk an average of 7 miles per day and 50 miles a week.) in 2023,I walked over 2500 miles which is about the distance from New York City to Denver Colorado. -Latest edit entered on April 19, 2024. Two sporting events have happened. 1) As a season ticket holder at Yankee Stadium for the last 49 years, I attended my 47th Opening Day on April 5, 2024. I have only missed 2 Opening Days from snow storms. 2) My Alma Mater UConn won the NCAA men’s national basketball championship for the second consecutive year. Latest edit entered on December 7, 2022. Today, the Yankees signed a contract with Aaron Judge for 9 years and $360 million. Thank you Yankees and Aaron Judge. I have already ordered my season tickets for next year, my 48th Consecutive year as a Yankees season ticket holder. This contract makes it a great season to look forward to. Latest edit entered on October 4, 2022. As a season ticket holder at Yankee stadium for the last 47 years, it has been another fun season. I have attended 15 regular season games. The Yankees won 10 and lost 5. I have seen 6 Aaron Judge home runs in person. The first 2 came on April 22nd when Judge hit 2 homers. I was also there for his 55th home run which overcame my childhood here, Mickey Mantle’s highest total in a year. I was also there for Judge’s 60th home run. I have tickets for the playoffs starting next week. Maybe I will get to go to another World Series! Latest edit entered on September 1,2022. In addition, we hope to see everyone at the 9/10/2022 Waterbury Class of 1965 Reunion hosted by Sandi Young of Wilby. The Crosby event contact is Lisbeth Mastrianni-Mulville. Hello to visitors. I graduated from UConn in 1969, and received an MBA in 1978 from Pace University in Manhattan. I retired in April 2010. For 35 years, I worked at the Consolidated Edison Company's corporate headquarters in Manhattan. Most recently, I was the Account Executive for the Federal Government and the United Nations. My accomplishments included two national marketing awards, a policy visit to the White House on November 8, 1999, and I was a nationally-recognized speaker on utility deregulation at federal energy conferences. I also spent eight years on a United Nations energy committee, and I participated in three United Nations energy conferences. In addition, for ten years, I was directly involved in the $2.1 billion renovation of the United Nations Headquarters in Manhattan. In July 2001, I was honored by U.S. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan for being instrumental in the completion of his Foley Square Project in lower Manhattan. My efforts resolved major issues that were preventing the completion of this $80 million project designed to be Senator Moynihan's legacy gift to the people of the State of New York.. Being honored by Senator Moynihan was truly a major career highlight. When I retired in 2010, Senator Moynihan had passed away. He was represented by his Office Director for New York State, Ross Frommer, at my retirement party.. Ross spoke fondly about this memorable event in 2001. However, my most important career highlights came just a few months later. Most notably, I had scheduled a meeting at the Pentagon for September 11, 2001, I changed the date of the meeting to the 21st because my wedding anniversary is September 11, and 2001 marked our 30th wedding anniversary. That decision was fortunate for me along with two co-workers and several members of the federal government and the United Nations . We w...Expand for more
ould have been right where the plane flew into the Pentagon. Instead, I worked at one of Mayor Giuliani's command centers after the attacks. Obviously, I am very happy to be alive to tell this story. As a 9/11 survivor and first responder, I have many memories that come alive each year on that day.. On February 20, 2003, I was the Master of Ceremony at a United Nations energy security conference. In attendance were all of the people who would have been with me on 9/11, representatives from the Pentagon, as well as my wife. My introduction included my 9/11 story. When I finished telling my 9/11 story, I pointed out my wife in the audience. She got a standing ovation! It was a spontaneous response that I will always remember. With that said. My wedding anniversary is a very emotional day each year. I have been married to my wife, Carol , for 49 years. Carol grew up in Queens, New York. She retired as the Director of Government Programs for Emblem Health, a Manhattan-based insurance company. We have two married children and two grand children. Our daughter, Jennifer, is 42. She graduated from the Quest Honors Business Program at the University of Maryland and has an MBA from Pace University in Manhattan. She spent 18 years as a Director at FINRA, the Financial Industry Regulatory Agency. .She is currently an Executive Director at U.B.S. Jennifer has two children ages 11 and 7. Her husband, Rob, is a manager at a computer consulting firm. Our son, Ron, 39, is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Syracuse University in Finance. Ron started his career with five years at the New York Stock Exchange. For the last 15 years, Ron has been with U.B.S. and is currently an Executive Director. His wife ,Katie, is an accountant with Merck. My hobbies included lots of running. In the day, I logged over 24,000 miles including 12 New York City Marathons and 4 triathlons. In addition, my hobbies included seeing 117 Broadway show, as well as operas and concerts. Over the years , I have seen thousands of Rock and Roll concerts including the Beatles at Shea Stadium on August 15, 1965, and Elvis Presley at Madison Square Garden in 1971. Most recently, we saw Andrea Bocelli and Sara Brightman at Madison Square Garden and Cher at the Barclays Center. For the past 46 years, I have been a season ticket holder at Yankee Stadium. I was at David Wells perfect game in 1998. I have also attended 11 Yankees World Series, of which they won 7 titles. Outside of other similar Yankees fans, I have been to more World Series than any fan for any other team in the Major Leagues who ever lived. (That is pretty cool.) I also have attended two World Series-clinching games. In addition, I have had the pleasure of personally meeting and getting autographed photos of Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams, Willie Mays, and Duke Snider, as well as hundreds of other past and present Major League Baseball players. On one occasion, I met both Yogi Berra and Don Larsen. Don Larsen's perfect game in the 1956 World Series is the reason I became a Yankees fan. Therefore, it was great to be able to meet him, and to thank him for initiating a lifetime of baseball memories for me. Retirement now means spending a lot of time with our grand children. With that said, I do stay very active. However, my marathon years ruined my knees. So, instead, I walk between 40 and 50 miles a week. In September 2020, I got the Africa Award from Fitbit. I walked the equivalent of the length of Africa which is 5,000 miles. (That took me about three years to do.) In November 2020, Fitbit gave me the Great Wall of China Award. I had reached the 5,500 mile mark which is the walking equivalent of the Great Wall of China. In December 2020, Fitbit awarded me the Trans Siberian Railway Award. I had reached the 5,772 mile mark which is the equivalent distance of the Trans Siberian Railway. Thanks to Fitbit for making walking so much fun. On March 7th, My wife and I got our second Pfizer vaccination shot. We hope to see things start to open up more. Having to cancel the 55th Crosby High School Reunion last year was a disappointment for sure. However, it was a unanimous decision by the Planning Committee. Hope that this update finds everyone doing well I look forward to seeing everyone at our next reunion. Best regards to all.
