Ronald H.'s Story

Life Retired, Former President/Owner Susquehanna American, Inc, Health care management and consulting firm. Lived and worked from Pittsburgh, PA. In 1997, moved office to central PA (Mechanics burg) Then retired shortly thereafter. Avocation:Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist. Personally- I unfortunately have been married more than once as I have noticed, so many others. A contemporary tragidy of our society. I have a son Ron, Jr. from a former marriage who still resides in Pittsburgh. Is in his early 40's and single, works as a DJ, writes music and lives the life of a yuppie in a great city. Also have step-daughter, Amanda, in San Antonio with Masters in Nursing running a hospital ER. A step-daughter, Carol, in state of Washington, teaches high school English and into animal rescue stuff. Son, Shaun, graduated H.S., took a year off, and now has AS degree, in computer science; youngest son, Matt, finishing senior year at U of Oregon, then Grad school. I divorced after 20+years married.. Don't have any grandkids yet. Being retired, keep house , raise Matt. Do my best to get by and enjoy for first time after 30 years of 10/12 hour days, living out of a suitcase, flying airplanes and away from home several days a week. Unfortunately, retirement was accelerated by health problems. With God's blessings, I side stepped most and am really better off for it. God's way of slowing me down, adjusting priorities and doing what I was too thick headed to do on my own. With minor exceptions, life is, in general, good. I am enjoying it and my children. The blessings in life more than out weigh the negative. ! Next chapter: after 40 years living on the east coast, I finally relocated back to the west coast.Arrived in Florence, Oregon for Christmas 2004. I had longed to return to the west coast, see the Pacific Ocean again and have finally accomplished that step. School and Career. Went to Citrus College for two years after H.S. and transfer-ed to USC for my junior year. Graduated USC 1960 and stayed on for one year of Grad school at USC. Transferred to Cal State at LA Grad School and continued there as a Counseling and Clinical Pych Major. Completed all course work for MA and two of four comp exams when I was ordered to active duty with U.S. Navy in 1963. (I had joined the U.S. Naval Reserves to avoid being drafted into the Army with Viet Nam under way) Never completed last two exams and never returned to California after military...Expand for more
service. Have continuously lived on east coast ( Wash Dc,N.J. and PA) I worked in Psych in Navy but went into business and management in the health care industry, forming and running my own management and consulting firm. . After retiring, I went back to school and obtained certification as Clinical Hypnotherapist which I practice part time since retiring. Doing best to enjoy retirement and getting youngest son, Matt, thru college and ready for his career. See school bio.I says it all. Workplace After U.S. Navy (1963-1966 in Washington, DC)joined family business in construction in N. J. Through building Nursing Homes we began developing and running our own chain of facilities until 1976 when my older brothers retired. I moved to PA and formed my own company managing and providing management consultation to hospitals, nursing homes etc.to clients throughout the mid-Atlantic/east coast states. I ran Susquehanna American,Inc. as CEO from 1976 to 1997/98. Had corporate office in Pittsburgh, PA and branch in NE PA. I moved corporate offices to Mechanics-burg, PA(near Harrisburg) in 1996 and shortly thereafter, due to health reasons,I retired. I and family resided in Mechanics burg, PA until making the move in Dec 2004 back to the west coast. In retirement,I have worked part time as a Clinical Hypnotherapist. In moving to Florence, OR, I have gone full circle back to the west coast although it took 40+ years. Military After being ordered to active duty by the US Naval Reserve, I initially went to OCS in March 1963 at Newport, RI, not a bad place if you are a civilian. By a miracle or a mistake by the Navy, I was assigned to the Naval Security Group Headquarters in Washington, DC as a Human Behavior Analyst and was appointed a Special Agent in a job that actually made use of my education in Psychology. I worked in security stuff, wore civilian clothes, lived in an apartment in Bethesda, MD, played golf at the Bethesda Naval Medical Center golf course every chance I could and, at times, had to be reminded that I was in the military. It was a great three years in my life and a professional experience you couldn't buy with real money. All of the above while the Viet Nam war was going on. I did my part in the cause for freedom. Just another example of God's hand in our life. I am forever grateful to have served my country and for all of me to have come home, undamaged, when several of my friends and relatives were not so fortunate.
