Workplace
After graduating from Oakridge High School, I did a hitch in the Air Force, mostly at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Miss. I returned to Oregon and went to work for the Southeren Pacific RR then the SP&S RR for 10 years. Then the Viet Nam GI Bill was passed. I started at the University of Oregon at age 32. I was accepted to the College of Education on becoming a Junior. I graduated with Honors at the end of Winter Quarter. subing a vacancy for Stockton Unified and was hired. I spent almost twenty years teaching preschool through 7th grade. I really enjoyed my 4 years teaching Kindergarten to overflow southeast Asian non english speakers. At age 55 I went to the hospital in Sacramento for 6 vessel open heart bypass surgery. I took an early retirement. I sold my house in Stockton and moved to Oakridge when my wife of 30 years suddenly moved out and divorced me. She said, "Diabetes will make you become more and more ill, and I'm not going to take care of you." I take care of myself and bowl once a week.
