Ronald's Story
Life
Hello, Rebels. I enlisted as missile maintenance specialist in USAF after graduation in 1967. Had tours in Minot AFB ND, Danang and Phu Cat AB Vietnam, Cannon AFB NM, Hamilton AFB CA, and Torrejon AFB where I married a Spanish girl in 1972 and had first daughter--those Spanish classes finally paid off. Got out of the Air Force in 1976 and went back in 1978 to Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson AZ where 2nd daughter was born. Took first college class 12 years after graduating from Savanna proving it's never too late to go back to school. AF sent me to University of Arizona to get BS in Electrical Engineering and then to Officers Training School where upon I was commissioned 2Lt in '83. I was a program manager at the Ballistic Missile Office, Norton AFB CA where I also earned MSSysMgmt at USC off duty. Then off to Penn State for a BS in Meteorology, followed by tours to Wright-Patterson AFB OH, Scott AFB IL, and back to Wright-Patt in Dayton OH where we live today. I retired from the USAF as...Expand for more
a Lt Col in January 2003, and now work as a government support contractor at Wright-Patterson AFB. Spent a couple of years in the Reconnasissance Systems Program Office planning signals intelligence sensor technology stuff. I'm currently in the Mobility Systems Program Office as the senior engineer for the Joint Precision Airdrop System (JPADS) supporting the development and integration of the JPADS aircraft mission support equipment in the C-17, and the many C-130 variants. If you Google on JPADS, you'll see how the system is saving lives over in Afghanistan and Iraq by reducing the number of convoys used to resupply troops in the field. This makes for a very rewarding job.
I spend much of my off-duty time keeping my 1972 DeTomaso Pantera alive, but mostly I love being a Grandpa even though I'm WAY too young. ;-)
So, as you can see, I'm still having fun after all these years, and am still married to the Spanish girl for going on 36 years now. Hope you are also having fun. Enjoy, Ron
